Position Details

- Full-Time Permanent Position
- Classification: Health Professional Level 2 with a salary range of $99,432 - $111,229 per annum + Superannuation
- Salary packaging arrangements providing tax benefits available for living and entertainment expenses increasing your take-home income where part of your wage is paid tax free each pay, saving thousands in tax each year

About your new role
The Mental Health Counsellor provides high-quality, person-centred counselling and psychosocial support to consumers as part of a transdisciplinary team. The role supports consumer wellbeing, safety and recovery through therapeutic engagement, emotional support, and skill development across community settings.

Practising within a defined counselling and psychosocial scope, the Mental Health Counsellor delivers evidence-informed counselling interventions, contributes to intake and assessment processes as required, and supports care planning and referral pathways in collaboration with clinical and non-clinical colleagues. The role promotes trauma-informed, recovery-oriented and culturally safe practice aligned with Neami National frameworks.

The Mental Health Counsellor contributes to service quality, risk management and continuous improvement activities and works collaboratively to support positive outcomes for consumers, families and carers.

What you will bring to the role

- Formal tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Occupational Therapy or related
- Current full registration as a Psychologist or Occupational Therapist with current annual practising certificate from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) essential, OR
- Current full registration as a Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW),
- Current registration withACAlevel 2 or PACFA

Essential Requirements

- Demonstrated experience providing counselling or psychosocial support to people experiencing mental health challenges.
- Ability to maintain skilled boundaries, demonstrate empathy and build trust.
- Strong capacity to engage effectively when working with discomfort, distress and people experiencing crisis.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing demands and exercise sound judgement.
- Experience in working as a member of a transdisciplinary team with the ability to inspire and facilitate team commitment and cooperation.
- Ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of a diverse range of people and identify changing needs within a group.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care.

Desirable

- Experience working in community mental health or psychosocial support settings.
- Postgraduate qualification in counselling, psychotherapy or mental health.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating group programs.
- Knowledge and experience with a range of evidence-based AOD-specific models and interventions
