The Manager Finance provides strategic and operational leadership of financial management at Bega Garnbirringu Health Service, ensuring that resources are managed in a way that upholds Aboriginal community control, cultural integrity and organisational sustainability. The role is responsible for embedding culturally responsive financial and procurement practices that support the organisation's mission and strengthen Aboriginal economic participation. This includes ensuring that financial decision-making contributes to improved health and social outcomes while delivering transparent, accountable and ethical stewardship of community resources. The Manager Finance plays a key leadership role in aligning financial strategy, governance, and procurement with culturally grounded priorities, supporting long-term sustainability and community benefit.
Key responsibilities
- Provide leadership and management to the financial department
- Provide financial strategy recommendations to CEO/Chairperson and Executive Team
- Identify and address potential financial risks for BGHS
- Oversee all financial decisions, such as budgeting and auditing
- Oversee and assist where applicable with end-to-end payroll processing (including PAYG, Superannuation, Salary Packaging)
- Maintain employee data and payroll systems and provide support to Bega employees on general payroll queries
- Oversee calculation of employment termination payments
- Ensure all incoming payroll related documents (time sheets, leave forms)
are verified and approved by the appropriate Manager
- Undertake audits as part of a quality assurance program to ensure data integrity
- Lead and implement procurement strategies that prioritise Aboriginal-owned businesses and suppliers
About you
- Demonstrated senior financial management experience (preferably in not-for-profit or ACCO sector)
- A qualification in Accounting or Finance
- A thorough knowledge of and experience in the application of payroll and personnel legislation, including Acts, Awards, policies and guidelines
- A thorough knowledge of and experience in the operations of finance, preferably in a not-for-profit organisation or Aboriginal Medical Service
- Experience with payroll systems, accounting software (e.g. MYOB) and financial systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capability
- Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality and accountability
- Experience working in or with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO)
