Job: 1693000 | Full-Time | Permanent | Redfern, NSW | $120,477 - $129,490 (Based on Experience)

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally secure legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact
As a valued member of the Governance Risk and Compliance team, you’ll play a key role in the implementation and ongoing operation of the ALS’ GRC framework, helping strengthen governance, assurance, and organisational resilience. Working across the organisation, the role helps embed practical risk and compliance practices that support accountability, continuous improvement, and better outcomes for community. Each day, you will:

- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the ALS’ enterprise risk, compliance, and assurance frameworks.
- Coordinate risk assessments, maintain risk and compliance registers, monitor actions and support business areas to manage their obligations.
- Coordinate assurance activities, control reviews and audits, including tracking findings, actions, and remediation.
- Prepare clear and accurate reports, dashboards and insights for management, Executive and governance forums.
- Support governance, business continuity, resilience, and incident management activities, including maintaining relevant policies, processes, and documentation.




- Help build a positive risk and compliance culture through practical guidance, training, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.

Your Story & Strengths
You’re a skilled Governance, Risk & Compliance professional who can turn complex information into practical advice and help strengthen how the ALS manages risk, compliance, and assurance. You understand the importance of strong governance in supporting an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation and bring:

- 4+ years’ experience in governance, risk, compliance, assurance, or audit, with relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Strong understanding of enterprise risk management, compliance, internal controls, and contemporary frameworks, such as ISO 31000.
- Experience supporting risk assessments, compliance reviews, assurance activities and maintaining registers, action plans and reporting.
- Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to turn information into practical advice and identify emerging risks.
- Strong digital and reporting skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel and Power BI, with experience using or supporting GRC systems desirable.
- A genuine understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and community,



with a commitment to culturally safe, community-informed practice.
- Experience using GRC systems and working across charity governance, assurance frameworks and complex funding, regulatory and contractual obligations is desirable.
