Salary per hour (exc. super): $64.83
Hours per fortnight: 64
Employment Status: Fixed Term Part Time until December 2027
Closing date: 22/10/2026
An exciting fixed-term opportunity is available for a Clinical Nurse Educator to run COMPASS - Clinical Orientation, Mentorship, Preceptorship and Structured Support - a transition-to-practice pilot supporting newly registered nurses at Bendigo Health.
Working within Nursing & Midwifery Education, the COMPASS Program CNE will lead the implementation and day-to-day delivery of a structured, team-based preceptorship model designed to strengthen graduate transition, clinical capability, confidence and increasing independence across the first 12 months of practice.
A key focus of the role will be developing and supporting Senior Clinical Preceptors and Near-Peer Clinical Preceptors, undertaking structured graduate check-ins, supporting early identification and escalation of concerns, partnering with clinical areas to operationalise the model, and monitoring whether planned support is being delivered as intended.
The successful applicant will work closely with clinical managers, educators and participating departments to support graduate and Clinical Preceptor alignment, including appropriate support across the 24-hour clinical environment. Clinical departments retain responsibility for their own rosters; the Programs' CNE provides guidance and implementation support.
The role will also contribute to evaluation, quality improvement and research associated with the COMPASS pilot, creating an opportunity to help shape a new model of transition-to-practice support at Bendigo Health.
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with a strong interest in clinical education, graduate transition and developing the capability of others. The successful candidate will bring a coaching and learner-centred approach, strong stakeholder and communication skills, and the ability to translate an agreed model into practical delivery across busy clinical environments.
You will be comfortable supporting Clinical Preceptors and graduates, facilitating constructive feedback and challenging conversations, recognising when additional support is required, and working collaboratively with clinical leaders to address implementation barriers.
Key responsibilities
- Implement and deliver the 12-month COMPASS transition-to-practice pilot.
- Prepare, develop and support Senior and Near-Peer Clinical Preceptors.
- Facilitate Orientation & planned PD days across the 12-months.
- Undertake structured graduate check-ins and monitor transition, progression and support needs.
- Support early identification, educational response and escalation of graduate concerns, including relevant LAMP processes.
- Partner with clinical areas to support local readiness, Clinical Preceptor/graduate alignment and planned support across relevant shifts.
- Monitor program fidelity, identify barriers and support practical improvement.
- Develop and deliver education, resources, simulation and reflective learning activities.
- Contribute to data collection, evaluation, quality improvement, research and reporting associated with the pilot.
