Position Information

Warrawong High School is a co-educational Year 7-12 inclusive high school with a strong focus on explicit teaching strategies catering to a diverse and energetic school community reflecting the cultural diversity of contemporary Australia. Part of the Lake Illawarra North network, the total student population of Warrawong High School in 2026 is 565 students. Approximately 46% of our students have a language background other than English and 11 % of students identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Warrawong High School has the region’s only Intensive English Centre and there are nine classes currently in the Bayview special Education Centre. To complement our inclusive and diverse school community we have a school-based permaculture and community garden which supports and promotes sustainable living. The school is a founding member of the Illawarra Academy of STEM and is involved in a social sports values football program with the Real Madrid Foundation. We provide opportunities for high potential and gifted students via our Stage 4 ASPIRE Program.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

Proven ability to build a cohesive team incorporating the Wellbeing and Learning Support teams to drive a shared, inclusive and student-centered vision of high expectations, aligned with the School Excellence Plan and Department priorities.

2. Highly visible, collaborative and inspiring leader with the capacity to build authentic and trusted partnerships across the broader school community fostering a whole school commitment to wellbeing and learning support.

3. Demonstrated ability to lead and implement effective systems and processes ensuring that identified students receive appropriate supports catering for their individual needs.

4. Capacity to develop and promote a new school wellbeing hub, ensuring that collaborative partnerships and connections are established to meet the diverse cultural needs of our school community.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
