The Role
The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.
The Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) is seeking high-performing candidates to join the Workforce, Industry and Supply Chain (WISC) Division. These roles offer a unique opportunity to shape Australia's nuclear-powered submarine enterprise by helping develop the workforce, industrial capability and supply chains that will underpin one of the nation's most significant national security and industrial undertakings.
This recruitment will fill a number of current vacancies across the Division and establish a merit pool for future opportunities that arise during the life of the pool.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work directly on issues of national significance, engage with senior leaders across government and industry, influence strategic decision-making, and contribute to shaping Australia's future industrial and workforce capability.
Through policy development, industry engagement, program delivery and enterprise-wide coordination, WISC enables greater Australian participation in opportunities arising from AUKUS and supports the long-term growth and resilience of the submarine enterprise.
EL1 officers lead complex and often sensitive work across policy, strategy, program delivery, governance, workforce and industry development, and stakeholder engagement functions that contribute to the successful delivery of Australia's Nuclear-Powered Submarine enterprise. Depending on the role, this may include:
- Strategic policy development
- Development and implementation of workforce or industrial strategies
- Industrial analysis
- Performance reporting, governance and assurance
- Workforce planning and capability development
- Industry engagement
- Delivery of workforce or supply chain initiatives
You will lead teams, shape policy and program outcomes, engage with senior executives, industry leaders and external stakeholders, and provide advice that directly informs strategic decisions across government, Defence and Australia's AUKUS partnership. About our Team
The Workforce,
Industry and Supply Chain Division develops the workforce, industrial capability and supply chains required to deliver Australia's nuclear-powered submarine program. Working at the centre of one of Australia's most significant industrial and workforce transformations, the Division leads enterprise workforce planning, industry development, supply chain readiness and strategic uplift initiatives that support the long-term success of the AUKUS partnership.
Current vacancies are available in the following directorates:
- The Industry Strategy team develops and evolves Australia’s AUKUS Submarine Industry Strategy, provides strategic advice on submarine industrial capability requirements, and helps ensure future Defence policy and strategic guidance reflects the needs of the Australian and Trilateral Submarine Industrial Bases
- The Industry Program and Governance team provides governance, integration, reporting and risk management functions that support coordinated delivery across the industry portfolio, strengthen enterprise decision-making, and improve visibility of progress, risks and opportunities across government, industry and AUKUS stakeholders
- The Supply Chain Strategy and Resilience team identifies and develops future supply chain policy opportunities and capability requirements to mitigate vulnerabilities, by providing strategic supply chain planning, demand signals and resilience measures to support Australian industry readiness and long-term industrial growth ensuring the Australian submarine industrial base supply chain is available and protected across Australia’s Nuclear - Powered Submarine enterprise
- The Supply Chain Programs team delivers supplier qualification, capability uplift and participation programs, such as Defence Industry Vendor Qualification (DIVQ) and Australian Submarine Supplier Qualification (AUSSQ) programs, that strengthen Australian industry integration into domestic, UK and US submarine supply chains
- The Industry Uplift team leads initiatives that reduce barriers to participation, strengthen sovereign industrial capability and support Australian industry access to Australian, UK and US submarine supply chain opportunities through targeted interventions, partnerships, grants and investment programs
- The Industry Engagement team leads engagement with industry across the Nuclear - Powered Submarine enterprise, improving awareness of opportunities, facilitating collaboration and providing industry insights to support industrial development and enterprise decision-making
- The International Placements Office team delivers the international placements program to accelerate skills development, knowledge transfer and trilateral interoperability

Experience in areas such as policy development, strategy, program delivery, governance, stakeholder engagement, economics, industry development, workforce planning, national security, international affairs, research, analysis or consulting will be highly regarded.
