About the opportunity
The HSU is seeking a Communications Adviser to join our Communications team. You’ll help keep members informed about workplace issues and the work of the Union and encourage them to get involved in our campaigns.
The work includes member updates, digital content and communications for campaigns and events. This role would suit someone who enjoys writing, has good ideas and works well with others, and who wants to use their skills to support health and care workers.
Contract
This is a full-time permanent role.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Provide communications advice to assigned operational divisions, working with divisional leaders to identify opportunities, risks and effective communication approaches.
- Develop campaign communication plans, including key messages, audiences, channels and content requirements.
- Produce accurate and engaging written,
visual and multimedia content for campaigns, member communications, publications, events and organisational activities.
- Coordinate content across the HSU website, email, social media and other channels, including publishing, scheduling and keeping information up to date.
- Coordinate the production and distribution of communication materials, prepare briefs and work with external suppliers or specialist providers as required.
- Review communication and campaign outcomes using analytics and stakeholder feedback and recommend improvements.
Success in this role
You will bring:
- Clear communication and strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to explain complex or sensitive information to different audiences.
- Sound judgement when identifying communication risks and handling sensitive information.
- A cooperative approach and the ability to build productive relationships with divisional leaders, colleagues and external providers.
- Strong planning and organisation skills to manage competing briefs, production schedules and deadlines.
- Creative ideas and the ability to produce accessible content that follows established messaging and brand standards.
- Initiative in identifying communication opportunities and practical improvements.
- Flexibility to respond to emerging issues, urgent communication needs and changing priorities.
Skills and experience
The successful applicant will have:
- Demonstrated experience in a broad communications role, providing advice and delivering communications across a range of channels and audiences.
- Experience supporting campaigns, projects or organisational initiatives through communication planning, content development and stakeholder engagement.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, work collaboratively with senior and operational stakeholders, and deliver high quality communications within required timeframes.
Desirable
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, media, design or a related discipline.
- Experience in a union, membership-based, advocacy, political, government or not for profit environment.
- Experience developing communications that support organising, industrial, advocacy or membership campaigns.
Location
This position is based at the HSU Head Office in Sydney CBD. The role is predominantly office-based.
Remuneration
$93,028- 117,594 (dependant on relevant skills and experience) + 12% (12.5% for females) Employee Superannuation Contributions.
