Sugar Terminals
Mackay
Sugar Terminals Limited (STL) owns and operates six bulk commodity terminals along the Queensland coast, from Cairns to Bundaberg, playing a vital role in getting the majority of Australia's raw sugar to global markets. Our terminals provide large-scale storage and handling capacity for raw sugar and other bulk commodities, supporting growers, millers and exporters across regional Queensland.
We’re looking for a skilled, motivated and future focused Operator to join our team in Mackay. This is a hands on operational role, but it is more than simply operating plant and equipment. We’re looking for someone who wants to develop their technical, operational capability and build a long term career within STL.
You will become an important part of a team responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a major bulk materials handing facility, while gaining exposure to shipping, maintenance, technology and business improvement.
About the Role
As an Operator, you’ll be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of plant and equipment, including conveyors, hoppers, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, mobile machinery and associated terminal infrastructure.
You’ll also undertake activities such as:
· Operating and monitoring automated plant and control systems
· Ship loading and bulk materials handling operations
· Plant inspections, cleaning, water blasting and general operational and labouring activities
· Basic trouble shooting and first-line maintenance activities
· Supporting mechanical and electrical trades during maintenance activities
· Operating mobile equipment such as Front-End Loaders, excavators, elevated work platforms, mobile cranes, ship loaders, bobcats, tractors and any other associated equipment on site
· Supporting warehousing and terminal activities associated with stores
· Using computer-based systems to monitor plant performance, product flow and operational requirements
· Participating in safety, reliability and business improvement initiatives
· Working collaboratively with operators, tradespeople, supervisors and other members of the extended STL team.
This is a role where no two days are necessarily the same. You’ll be expected to understand not only how to operate the equipment, but why the equipment, process and business need to operate the way they do.
Your ability to think ahead, identify opportunities, solve problems and understand the bigger picture will be highly valued.
More than an operator role
We are looking for someone who wants to build a career, not simply fill a position.
The right person will have the curiosity and drive to develop their knowledge across operations, maintenance, shipping, technology, safety and business performance.
You may already be an experienced operator or tradesperson, or you may have a solid mechanical or electrical background and be looking to broaden your experience.
A Mechanical or Electrical trade qualification, or significant experience working with the industrial plant and equipment, will be highly regarded.
Just as important is your attitude and ambition.
We’re looking for someone who:
· Wants to learn and continually improve
· Takes pride in doing a job well and safely
· Can see beyond the immediate task and understand the bigger picture
· Is positive, reliable and willing to support others
· Is comfortable using computers and operational systems
· Can identify problems and contribute to practical solutions
· Is willing to step up, take responsibility and lead when required
About You
You align strongly with our company values and take pride in working safely, collaboratively, and with a continuous improvement mindset. You are self-motivated, dependable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
To be successful, you’ll bring:
- Previous experience in bulk materials handling, processing, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, construction or a similar operational environment
- Strong plant and equipment operating skills
- Relevant high-risk work licences (advantageous)
- A proactive and positive attitude
- Strong commitment to safety
- The ability to understand and use automated control and maintenance systems
· The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who wants to do more, learn more and become more.
Why Join STL
You’ll join a team that takes pride in delivering outcomes for the Queensland Sugar Industry while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, teamwork and continuous improvement. At STL, we want to develop people who can contribute not only to today’s operation, but to the future of our business.
If you’re an experienced operator who is technically minded or a tradesperson who wants to broaden your skills, understand how a business operates this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
