Role overview

The purpose of a Bricklayer role is to construct, repair, and maintain walls, partitions, and other structures using bricks, blocks, and mortar. Bricklayers ensure buildings are secure, durable, and compliant with construction standards, directly supporting the delivery of quality residential and commercial projects.

Key responsibilities

- Lay bricks, blocks, and related materials to construct and repair walls, partitions, arches, and other structures.
- Mix, spread, and apply mortar to ensure strong and durable bonds.
- Interpret and follow building plans, drawings, and specifications accurately.
- Cut, shape,



and polish bricks or blocks using hand tools and machinery.
- Check vertical and horizontal alignment of structures to meet quality standards.
- Repair and maintain existing brickwork and masonry structures.
- Work safely with scaffolding, tools, and equipment, maintaining compliance with site safety standards.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople to deliver projects on time and to specification.

Qualifications and skills

- Certificate III or Certificate IV in Bricklaying/Blocklaying, or equivalent trade qualification.
- 1–2 years of proven experience in bricklaying or masonry work.
- Ability to interpret building plans and specifications accurately.
- Skilled in mixing and applying mortar, laying bricks/blocks, and ensuring structural alignment.
- Knowledge of Australian building codes and site safety practices.
