Primary objective
Conduct electrical inspections and enquiries, provide clear advice, enforce compliance when required to ensure work environments
are without risk in accordance with legislation administered by NT WorkSafe as delegated.

Context statement




This role is responsible for conducting thorough and meticulous inspections and enquiries and enforcing compliance with legislation
administered by NT WorkSafe. This is an opportunity to apply judgement, writing and regulatory compliance and enforcement
skills to contribute to the successful delivery of NT Worksafe’s statutory functions and strategic objectives. The position will work
as part of a dedicated technical specialist team. If the successful applicant holds a current Electrical Contractor’s Licence, they must
not perform electrical work, or employ a licensed electrical worker, who performs work for a fee during their employment with NT
WorkSafe.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Perform the regulatory functions of an Authorised Officer/Inspector in accordance with legislation administered by NT

WorkSafe.
2. Undertake inspections, test electrical installations using tools and technical testing equipment, investigate electrical and

workplace incidents, compliance monitoring, auditing and complaint handling, and report on potential enforcement action.
3. Monitor electrical contractors to ensure ongoing compliance with the Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation)

and Electrical Safety legislation and participate in other compliance programs.
4.



Work in partnership and cooperation with stakeholders to promote and encourage best practice and compliance.
5. Represent the division at forums to deliver educational sessions to encourage continuous improvement of electrical safety.

Selection Criteria
Essential
1. A current Northern Territory Unrestricted Electrical Mechanic’s Licence, A Grade Electrical Mechanic’s Licence, or an

equivalent interstate or New Zealand licence.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the electrical technical standards.
3. An understanding of, or ability to quickly gain an understanding of the principles of performance-based legislation and

preventative strategies.
4. Demonstrated understanding of agency / divisional policies and procedures.
5. Knowledge of emerging technologies impacting electrical standards.
6. An understanding of the principle of procedural fairness and familiarity with regulatory environments.
7. Demonstrated interpersonal, written communications, negotiation, training, conflict resolution and presentation skills.
8. Demonstrated the ability to work in a team workplace and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
9. Currently hold a valid Australian Drivers Licence and willingness to travel within the Territory.
10. Ability to obtain a working with children clearance.

Desirable
1. Clean Energy Council Accreditation (PV and Battery) or Certificate IV in Electrical- Photovoltaic Systems or similar.
2. Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or similar.
3. Knowledge of investigative, auditing and evidence gathering techniques.
