About the Role
This 12-month fixed-term opportunity will play a critical role in strengthening UOW's compliance with research funding obligations and uplifting key services, processes and governance practices across the research lifecycle. Working as a subject matter expert in research grant funder compliance and university research management compliance, you will collaborate with Research Services and other UOW professional services teams to understand external research funding obligations, assess gaps and risks, implement sustainable improvements and embed compliant practices into grants administration and contracting workflows.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the assessment and remediation of compliance gaps relating to ARC, NHMRC and other Commonwealth funding requirements.
- Analyse and redesign research management administration workflows to embed sustainable, compliant practices.
- Develop process maps, guidance materials, reports and documentation to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Drive initiatives to improve contracting, foreign engagement compliance and governance processes across Research Services.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to identify risks, deliver practical solutions and strengthen institutional capability.
About the Team
The Research Services Division sits within the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) portfolio and provides integrated support across the research projects and funding lifecycle. The team partners closely with faculties, researchers and qualified services teams to deliver high-quality research funding, grants administration and research support services, helping to foster a high-performing research culture at UOW.
What You'll Bring
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying complex regulatory, compliance or funding requirements, ideally within higher education, research management or a related sector.
- Proven ability to lead compliance, risk remediation, regulatory change or service improvement initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills with experience reviewing and redesigning business processes and workflows.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, guidance materials and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- A proactive, outcomes-focused approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results autonomously.
