This role involves exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing material. Reportable Conduct Investigations (family-based care) is responsible for assessing and investigating reportable allegations of child abuse (including child sexual abuse) and neglect. Resilience and a strong awareness of self, along with good self-care practices, are essential.
Your responsibilities
As a Senior Investigator you will:
- Manage child-centred, culturally safe, end to end investigations, analysis and assessment of reportable allegations and reportable convictions as defined under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024.
- Conduct objective, ethical, thorough, unbiased and timely investigations of reportable conduct in accordance with the relevant policies, procedures and legislative requirements, ensuring processes are conducted professionally and uphold the principles of procedural fairness.
- Demonstrate skills in contemporary investigative practices including the ability to work collaboratively with child safety service centre staff to plan, investigate, assess and mitigate risks, gather and analyse evidence and make findings and recommendations, documented in a final written report.
- Provide advice, support and guidance to department staff on issues pertaining to the reportable conduct scheme to prevent harm to children and ensure compliance with the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 and Child Protection Act 1999.
- Contribute effectively to the achievement of team goals and improvements as a key member of Reportable conduct investigations (family-based care).
- Be highly organised and agile to effectively manage competing priorities to meet legislated timeframes.
- Foster and maintain effective partnerships and networks with internal and external stakeholders and the regulatory body,
Queensland Family and Child Commission, to share information and ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
- Actively maintain the Reportable conduct investigations (family-based care) records, case and file management systems.
- Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate continuing high level and contemporary reportable conduct investigations by actively participating in the professional development opportunities offered to Reportable conduct investigations (family-based care) as part of performance and development plans.
- Managing other projects and other tasks as required.
Delegations
This position has no HR delegations.
Senior Investigators have a range of statutory delegations under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 including the Child Secure Organisations Regulation 2025.
Your mandatory requirements
- It is mandatory to have a Blue Card (a current Working with Children Clearance issued by Blue Card Services) before you commence employment in this role. It is recommended that you lodge an application for a blue card as soon as possible to avoid any delays in commencement should you be offered a position with the department.
- Possession of a 'C' class driver license and ability to undertake intrastate travel for short periods.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience in tertiary child protection practice and a possession of a degree and/or post graduate studies in related content.
- Experience in investigations and possession of a certificate in investigations.
- Experience and training in interviewing children.
- Experience in assessing, investigating and responding to allegations of child sexual abuse.
- Intrastate travel may be required.
