Purpose of the role
This role supports diversity and inclusion and champions inclusion of students with disability, to ensure as an education
provider the College meets The Disability Standards for Education 2005. The Integration Aide will ensure that students with
disability, access and participate in education on the same basis as other students. They will support the inclusion of students
within the Learning Support program through either direct support, or by assisting the classroom teacher in the students
educational journey.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
- Work effectively within the Learning Support Team and broader teaching staff, supporting the participation of
students with additional learning needs in an inclusive education system
- Provide high levels of in class support by assisting the teacher with modification and delivery of curriculum as
required under the supervision of the classroom teacher
- Assist in the classroom with communication between peers and teachers; note taking, scribing, developing
literacy/numeracy skills,
social skills and preparation of support materials including those which require the use of
ICT
- Actively support in the collection of NCCD evidence and data collection
- Implement and/or supervise school based special arrangements and provisions for NAPLAN, assessments and
semester exams as directed
- Participate in meetings as required and where appropriate
- Provide, where necessary, one-to-one intensive supervision of student/s to ensure their own and/or other students’
safety in school activities
- Maintain high level of confidentiality when working with students, staff, and parents
- Accompany students on excursions where required
- Support with administrative tasks as directed
Selection Criteria
Experience
- Experience supporting students with specific learning needs, disabilities, and diverse backgrounds in an education
environment
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work as part of a team
- High levels of literacy and numeracy skills, including excellent handwriting and typing skills
- An ability to work independently supporting students within a variety of subject areas, including in a 1:1 capacity, as
required
- Demonstrated strong organisation and high attention to detail
- Ability to utilise IT in supporting students with their learning
- Ability to be directed to work in a flexible manner, open to daily changes to timetables and programming
- Awareness, understanding and sensitivity of other cultures and their practices, beliefs, and values
- Supports diversity and inclusion and champions inclusivity in a calm, caring and respectful manner
- Be willing to work as part of a positive and supportive team to achieve the college values
- Demonstrated knowledge of child protected practices including reporting requirements
Qualifications and Employer Requirements
- Certificate III in Education Support/Certificate III in Education (Teacher Aide/Assistant) or an equivalent approved
qualification
- Clearance to work with children - Current Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
- Completion of Protecting Children – Mandatory Reporting and Other obligations (training provided by DoE Victoria)
as required – accessed via ELTHAM College
- National Police Check (within the last 6 months)
- Current Working with Children Check
- Entitled to live and work in Australia
