Remuneration: $75,000 – $85,000 per annum, exclusive of superannuation, plus compulsory superannuation and any applicable penalty rates, overtime and allowances

The workshop services and repairs all makes and models, providing logbook servicing, 4WD and diesel servicing, vehicle diagnostics, brake and clutch repairs, transmission, suspension, exhaust and cooling system repairs, and automotive air-conditioning services. The team uses modern diagnostic equipment and up-to-date technical information to deliver quality workmanship and reliable vehicle servicing.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Motor Mechanic to join our workshop on a full-time, ongoing basis. Working under the direction of the workshop supervisor, the successful applicant will inspect, diagnose, service, repair and test petrol engines and mechanical systems in lightweight motor vehicles, including transmissions, suspension, steering and braking components. This is a practical trade role suited to a candidate who takes pride in quality workmanship,



accurate mechanical repairs and maintaining a safe work environment.

Key duties and responsibilities

- Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines and related vehicle components.
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and inspect parts for wear, damage or defects.
- Repair and replace worn or defective parts, and reassemble mechanical components, referring to service manuals and technical information as required.
- Carry out scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication and engine tune-ups, to promote smooth vehicle operation and support compliance with applicable pollution and emissions requirements.
- Reassemble engines and associated components following repairs and servicing.
- Test and adjust mechanical components after repair to ensure proper operation and performance.
- Use computerised diagnostic equipment to assist with diagnosing faults and testing vehicle components and systems.
- Inspect vehicles and identify any repairs or work required to achieve roadworthiness, and issue roadworthiness certificates where authorised and required.
- Respond to vehicle breakdown service calls and provide mechanical assistance where required.

Skills and experience required





- AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
- At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.
- Experience in vehicle servicing, mechanical repairs and fault diagnosis.
- Positive knowledge of engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension and cooling systems.
- Ability to dismantle, repair, replace and reassemble mechanical components.
- Competent in using computerised diagnostic equipment and workshop tools.
- Understanding of manufacturer specifications, service procedures and safe work practices.
- Reliable, detail-oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Hours and remuneration

This is a full-time position of approximately 38 ordinary hours per week, with overtime available. The remuneration for the role is $75,000 – $85,000 per annum, exclusive of superannuation, together with compulsory superannuation and any penalty rates, overtime and allowances payable under the Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award 2020.
