Job Purpose The Glass and Window Fabricator is responsible for interpreting technical drawings to construct high-quality aluminium and timber window frames, doors, and architectural glass structures. This role focuses on operating precision machinery, ensuring strict compliance with safety codes (like AS 1288), and delivering defect-free structural products. Key Responsibilities
- Cutting & Machining: Measure, mark, and cut aluminium extrusions, timber, or PVC profiles using automated CNC saws, drop saws, and routers according to fabrication cutting lists.
- Frame Assembly: Assemble window and door outer frames, sashes, and sub-frames using pneumatic tools, crimpers, drills, mechanical joints, and brackets.
- Glazing & Sealing: Install rubber gaskets, glass blocks, and structural silicone. Safely handle, fit, and seal single, laminated, or double-glazed insulated glass units (IGUs) into fabricated frames.
- Hardware Fitting: Install locks,
rollers, friction stays, handles, stays, and weather-stripping onto sliding doors, awning windows, and bi-fold systems.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect finished products against structural blueprints to verify exact dimensions, squareness, and smooth operational tolerances before dispatch.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Prefer experience in a window fabrication workshop, or glass processing plant, installation on site may be required .
- Technical Literacy: Ability to read architectural blueprints, shop drawings, detailed cutting lists, and CAD printouts.
- Tool Competency: Proficiency with power tools, drop saws, pneumatic screw guns, CNC profile cutters, and glass handling equipment (such as suction lifters).
- Industry Standards: Knowledge of local glazing and building codes (e.g., Australian Standards for glass selection and installation).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy aluminium frames and oversized glass units safely.
- Capacity to stand for extended periods on a concrete workshop floor environment.
Pay: $30.00 – $50.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40.0 per week
