Location: Mount Druitt Hospital and Westmead Hospital

Where you'll be working
Join the new Safeguards Team within Perinatal Child and Youth Mental Health Services (PCYMHS), WSLHD, based at Mount Druitt Hospital and Westmead Hospital. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary service providing responsive, flexible and family-centred mental health support to children and young people aged 0–17 experiencing mental health distress.

- Work across schools, homes and hospital settings, using face-to-face, phone and telehealth models.

- Provide short-term, rapid and mobile support, including comprehensive assessment, care coordination and brief interventions.

- Collaborate with consumers, families/carers and health, social and education professionals.

- Contribute to the growth and evolution of a new service, including potential expansion to after-hours and weekend support.

- Be part of a team committed to trauma-informed, recovery-focused and evidence-based practice.

What you'll be doing
As a Safeguards Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1, you’ll bring specialist clinical expertise, professional judgement and leadership to the assessment and care of children and adolescents experiencing mental health distress.

- Provide expert mental health assessment, clinical advice, care navigation and treatment planning.

- Deliver and support high-quality,



client-centred clinical care for consumers and their families/carers.

- Lead and influence clinical practice, care pathways, models of care and quality improvement initiatives.

- Identify, apply and evaluate contemporary research, treatments and therapeutic approaches in perinatal, child and youth mental health.

- Develop clinical capability through education, consultation, research and collaboration across PCYMHS and the wider health and community system.

Essential Requirements:

Qualification: Approved post registration nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the organisation.
Registration: Current Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse

Selection Criteria:

- Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience and a post graduate qualification in Mental Health/Child and Adolescent.

- Proven clinical leadership skills, ability to apply clinical expertise in patient-centred consultancy and both the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework and the capacity to work independently.

- Demonstrated effective communication,



inter-personal skills and consistent demonstration of NSW Health CORE values across a variety of mediums and with a broad range of individuals (patients/consumers, members of the public, colleagues, management and key stakeholders). Knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.

- Demonstrated involvement in the development/change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence-based research.

- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.

- Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.

- Current NSW Driver’s License and willingness to use same as required for position.
