Primary objective
Provide high-quality advice and information coordination across a broad range of complex intergovernmental issues, with a focus on
national reforms and tied funding agreements.
Context statement
Intergovernmental relations work is agile and diverse. You will be joining a small team that works closely with other NT Government




agencies and other jurisdictions to pursue and protect the interests of the Territory through national forums and agreement negotiations.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high quality, evidence-based analysis and advice across a range of health policy, federal funding and intergovernmental issues

that impact the Northern Territory.
2. Support cross-agency coordination and projects to inform and resolve national health funding and policy negotiations arising through

the Health Ministers’ Meeting and other intergovernmental fora.
3. Develop and maintain productive working relationships with colleagues and across NT Government agencies to resolve key

intergovernmental matters.
4. Coordinate and prepare high-level briefings and correspondence, including Health Ministers’ Meeting briefs, Ministerial briefs and

letters of reply, Cabinet Submissions/Minutes and comments and Legislative Assembly Briefings.
5. Represent the Department and NT Government's interests at delegated local and national forums.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven ability to research, develop, critically analyse and communicate complex intergovernmental matters and advice.
2. Written and oral communication skills of a high order, with proven ability to prepare briefings, submissions and ministerial





correspondence on complex matters for a wide range of audiences in plain English.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels and contribute to a team

culture of collaboration, excellence and high performance.
4. Highly developed organisational skills and initiative, with demonstrated sound judgement and flexibility to respond to changing

situations and circumstances, setting priorities, meeting stringent and competing deadlines and producing work of a high standard.
5. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive documents.
Desirable
1. Experience in intergovernmental coordination and federal relations.
2. Understanding of contemporary and strategic issues facing the Northern Territory and of current policies and strategies to address

the issues.
3. Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours when required.
4. Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
