Energy Advance provides building energy efficiency assessment, compliance and consultancy services
to the residential and commercial construction industry across Australia. Services include NatHERS
assessments and ratings, Whole-of-Home assessments, and NCC energy efficiency compliance
services and documentation to assist builders, developers and other construction industry
professionals in meeting applicable building energy efficiency requirements.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Airtightness Specialist to join our team on a permanent, full-
time basis.
The successful applicant will undertake technical airtightness and building-envelope assessments
across residential and commercial projects, including blower-door testing, analysis and interpretation
of test data, investigation of air-leakage pathways and preparation of technical recommendations to
improve building performance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate withclients, builders, contractors, management and other professionals to
interpret airtightness findings and identify improvements to building-envelope performance.
- Review building plans, drawings, specifications and construction details to understand the
building envelope, establish testing requirements and identify potential areas of air leakage.
- Plan and conduct blower-door and pressure testing on residential and commercial buildings
to measure airtightness and air-permeability performance in accordance with applicable
ATTMA procedures and AS/NZS ISO 9972
- Calculate relevant dimensions such as envelope areas and internal volumes and prepare
buildings and calibrated testing equipment in accordance with applicable testing procedures.
- Record, calculate and analyse airflow and pressure data using specialist testing software and
interpret results against applicable project specifications,
technical standards and
performance targets.
- Assess building-envelope airtightness and investigate air-leakage pathways and deficiencies
using blower-door testing, visual inspection, smoke testing and thermal imaging where
appropriate.
- Evaluate the implications of identified air leakage for building-envelope performance, indoor
comfort, heating and cooling requirements and overall energy efficiency.
- Provide technical advice to clients and contractors on sealing methods, construction details
and remedial works to improve airtightness and building performance.
- Prepare technical reports documenting test methodology and results, identified leakage
issues, performance outcomes and recommended improvements.
- Review airtightness testing, calculations and technical reports completed by other testers to
ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with applicable procedures and standards.
- Provide technical guidance and training to Airtightness Testers in building preparation,
equipment operation, testing procedures, data analysis, leakage investigation and reporting.
- Maintain testing equipment and associated calibration and quality-control records to ensure
reliable and traceable testing practices.
ABOUT YOU
You will have a strong technical understanding of building-envelope performance and airtightness
assessment, together with the ability to analyse testing data, identify building-envelope deficiencies
and communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to clients and construction
professionals.
Knowledge and Skills
- Sound technical knowledge of building-envelope airtightness, air permeability and their
relationship to building performance and energy efficiency.
- Demonstrated knowledge of blower-door and pressure-testing procedures and the ability to
interpret airflow and pressure data.
- Knowledge of applicable ATTMA procedures, AS/NZS ISO 9972 and relevant NCC
requirements and project performance targets. ∙Experience using blower-door testing equipment, calibrated fans and digital pressure gauges.
- Experience with specialist airtightness testing software such as Retrotec FanTestic, or
equivalent.
- Ability to review building drawings, specifications and construction details relevant to
airtightness and building-envelope performance.
- Ability to investigate air-leakage pathways and provide practical technical recommendations
for remedial works.
- Robust technical reporting and computer skills.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and quality review of work undertaken by other testing
staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor degree or equivalent overseas
qualification in building, construction, energy, environmental engineering, sustainable
energy, building performance or a related field; and
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in airtightness testing, building-envelope assessment,
building performance, energy assessment or a closely related technical field.
