Job Title: Lead PL/I Development Consultant

Location: Melbourne

Role Overview:

Delivery Centric is seeking a highly experienced PL/I Development Consultant to provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise for a large-scale mainframe application environment.

This is a senior technical role focused on solution design, development, code analysis, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and technical leadership. The successful candidate will work closely with an established development team to solve complex engineering challenges and support application modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead technical analysis and solution design for complex PL/I application changes.
- Provide hands-on development for critical and high-risk components.
- Analyze and enhance large, complex PL/I codebases.
- Troubleshoot performance and application issues.
- Conduct code reviews and design reviews.
- Identify technical risks and recommend solutions.
- Support estimation, planning, testing, and implementation activities.
- Mentor team members and share PL/I best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement in development standards and processes.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

- Extensive experience in PL/I development on IBM Mainframe platforms.
- 20+ years of mainframe application development experience preferred.
- Strong experience in application design, development, testing, implementation,



and performance tuning.
- Deep expertise in VSAM and IBM MQ.
- Proven ability to work with large and complex legacy applications.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience providing technical leadership and code review guidance.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Desirable Skills

- Experience with Db2.
- Knowledge of CICS and high-volume transaction processing systems.
- Experience in banking, insurance, or other regulated industries.
- Understanding of batch processing, reconciliation, and financial systems.
- Experience with application modernization or legacy migration projects.
- Familiarity with mainframe monitoring and diagnostic tools.
