Primary objective
Provide clinical services in psychiatry at level of Consultant to Top End Mental Health Alcohol and Other Drugs Service
(TEMHAODS), participate fully in activities of the Northern Territory Medical Program in particular the teaching of psychiatry
to medical students and in the Post Graduate Psychiatry Training Program of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College
of Psychiatry (RANZCP).

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assess, plan and undertake management of inpatients and outpatients as required.
2. Participate in after-hours on call roster and be available for consultation for daytime crisis calls in the designated area of

clinical responsibility.
3. Fulfil statutory requirements under the Northern Territory Mental Health and Related Services Act (the Act) and other

legislation as appropriate in addition to ensuring that Northern Territory (NT) legislation is accurately interpreted and
utilised.

4. Participate in the postgraduate psychiatry training program as teacher, supervisor and member of the RANZCP NT
Training Committee, provide consultancy, clinical leadership and supervision as appropriate to other clinical staff.

5. Practice in accord with TEMHAODS philosophies, policies, procedures and standards; including establishing and
maintaining appropriate client records, writing reports and complying with management information system
requirements in accordance with ethical and skilled standards of the RANZCP, as well fulfilling the continued
education requirements of the RANZCP.

6. Follow defined service quality standards, workplace health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the
work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria
Essential
1.



Eligible for appropriate registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and admission or

eligible for admission for Fellowship of RANZCP or equivalent.
2. Demonstrated experience in teaching of junior medical staff and other professionals.
3. Proven skills in the effective use of information technology records and systems maintenance for the effective delivery

of client services.
4. Ability to obtain NT criminal history and working with children clearances.

Desirable
1. Experience in education, training, management and program development in mental health.
2. Experience in providing psychiatric services in remote and rural settings.
3. Hold current NT drivers licence or have the ability to obtain one
