Details: Are you politically astute, calm under pressure and skilled at building trusted relationships at the highest levels of government?

The Education Directorate is looking for an exceptional Directorate Liaison Officer (DLO) to be our key link with the Minister’s Office and our on-site representative at the ACT Legislative Assembly.

This is a high-profile, fast-paced role at the centre of government. You will work closely with Ministers’ offices, senior executives, Assembly staff and colleagues across the ACT Public Service to make sure the right information and advice gets to the right people, at the right time.

You will coordinate and provide advice across a broad range of ministerial and parliamentary business, including Cabinet processes, Legislative Assembly matters, ministerial correspondence, briefings, stakeholder engagement, meetings and events.

We are looking for someone who:

- has strong government acumen and understands how to navigate a complex political and administrative environment
- exercises excellent judgement and discretion, particularly when dealing with sensitive or high-profile issues
- builds trusted relationships and communicates confidently with people at all levels
- can quickly identify what matters, connect the right people and keep priorities moving
- thrives in a busy environment where responsiveness, accuracy and professionalism count
- brings a practical, solutions-focused approach and remains composed when the pressure is on.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of government, policy and parliamentary business, with visibility across the Education Directorate and the ACT Government more broadly.

If you are an experienced, trusted operator who enjoys being at the centre of the action,

we would like to hear from you.

Occasional after-hours work will be required to meet operational priorities. The position also attracts a Directorate Liaison Officer Allowance in accordance with applicable employment provisions.

Note: This is a temporary position available from 23 November 2026 to 22 November 2027.

Given the nature of the role, the Directorate Liaison Officer is predominantly based on site at the ACT Legislative Assembly. Some flexibility to work from home can be accommodated by agreement, where operational requirements allow; however, the role requires a strong and regular on-site presence to effectively support the Minister’s Office and assembly business.

How to Apply: Tell us why you would be outstanding in this role. In a two-page pitch, outline your relevant experience, the capabilities you would bring, and why you are the right fit for the Directorate Liaison Officer position. In preparing your pitch, please consider the Selection Criteria outlined in the Position Description and demonstrate how your experience and capabilities align with these requirements.

Please also provide the contact details of two referees, with at least one being your current manager.

Applications should be submitted .

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

Where an offer of employment is for a fixed-term period, any related temporary contracts within the Territory will be issued in compliance with the requirements and applicable exceptions outlined in the Fair Work Act.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved. More information can be found here ACT Closing the Gap Implementation Plan - ACT Government Transparency Portal.
