About the role
Context 11 Pty Ltd is seeking a Communications Officer on a contract basis starting in November 2026 for an initial 2 month period with 3 x 6 month extension options.
This role is positioned within a Federal Government agency, specifically supporting regulatory reform. Based in Canberra, ACT, this position plays a critical role in supporting organisational change activities and developing communication products for a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
This contract position at the APS 6 level equivalent, offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on significant government-related projects and initiatives.
Please note, candidates must hold an active baseline security clearance to be considered for this role.
Hybrid working arrangements (i.e. a combination of onsite attendance and remote working) will be considered at the discretion of the client with a maximum of 40 hours per week.
Rate
$80-$90 per hour (including Super)
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to the planning, delivery and reporting of multi-channel communication activities that support the agency's implementation of legislative reform, under guidance from senior staff
- Prepare clear, accurate and user-focused communication materials in line with the agency's Style Manual and the Australian Government Style Manual with a view to making the complex simple
- Draft, edit and review a range of communication products including website and intranet content, news items, newsletters, flyers, factsheets, video scripts, presentations and talking points
- Support stakeholder engagement by coordinating communication activities and fostering positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders with a focus on managing the website
- Collaborate across the Program and agency to understand user needs and contribute to practical, accessible communication solutions
- Assist in monitoring and reporting communication activities by gathering feedback and basic data to assess effectiveness and inform improvements
- Identify opportunities to improve communication processes and contribute ideas that enhance clarity, accessibility and consistency across the Program and agency
- Assist in preparing governance papers and related documentation to support program reporting and decision-making and provide secretariat support to the website working group
What we're looking for (Essential Criteria)
- Demonstrated experience in communications, media, marketing, change management or PR-related roles in a fast-paced environment
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate and engaging content for diverse audiences
- Ability to translate complex technical information into simple, accessible messages tailored to internal and external stakeholders
- Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders to support communication objectives and apply best practice methods
- Demonstrated ability to track, monitor and report communication outcomes
- Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
Desirable Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications (or substantial experience) in communications, media, journalism or a related field
- Familiarity with communication activities in a government or regulatory environment, or ability to develop knowledge in this area
- Experience translating complex legislation into accessible materials
- Experience developing publicly visible material that has the potential to be scrutinised
- Experience contributing to communication products that support high-profile projects
- Competency or interest in photography and videography, including use of editing software, is advantageous
- Familiarity with tools such as Canva, animation or video editing software is desirable but not essential
