Job Title: Communications and Design Officer

We’re looking for a creative, skilled, and values-driven Communications and Design Officer to join our National Campaign and Growth team. You’ll contribute ideas, explore new approaches and work with a supportive multidisciplinary team to help workers tell their stories, build collective power, and win change.

About the role

This varied, hands-on role brings together campaign communications and storytelling, social media and digital content, graphic design, video and photography, websites and email, and print and merchandise.

Working with members, delegates, ASU branches, and National Office staff, you'll create content that helps workers understand issues, connect with each other, and take action.

Key responsibilities

- Create engaging written, visual, and digital content across social media, email, websites, video, print, presentations, and merchandise.
- Turn complex workplace, industrial and policy issues into clear communications that encourage action.
- Work with members, delegates, and branches to tell authentic stories about workplace wins and collective action.
- Develop organic and paid digital campaigns that strengthen member engagement and union growth.
- Design campaign assets and produce video and photographic content that reflect ASU values and branding.




- Use audience insights and performance data to improve communications and engagement.

About you

You’ll bring

- Relevant qualifications in communications, design, digital media, marketing or a related field, and/or equivalent professional experience.
- At least three to five years' experience in communications, content creation, digital media, campaigning, design, or a related role.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience creating content across digital and traditional channels.
- Strong Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud skills.
- Experience producing video and photography content.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A commitment to social justice and improving the lives of working people.

Experience in unions, advocacy, campaigning, community organisations, or social justice movements will be highly regarded. You do not need to meet every criterion to apply.
