Role Description The Cook role at Australian Retirement Trust is a full-time, on-site position based in Brisbane City, QLD. The Cook will prepare and present high-quality meals for staff and guests, following established menus and dietary requirements, including allergen and special dietary needs. Daily responsibilities include planning and organizing food production, cooking and plating dishes, maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, and ensuring the kitchen and equipment are clean and well-maintained.
The Cook will manage stock levels, assist with ordering supplies, minimize food waste, and adhere to budget and portion control guidelines. The role also involves collaborating with colleagues, responding to feedback, and supporting a positive, secure, and inclusive workplace environment.
Qualifications
- Culinary skills, including professional cooking techniques, food preparation, and menu execution.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene regulations, and safe kitchen practices, including handling allergens and special diets.
- Experience in kitchen operations, such as stock control, ordering, portion management, and waste reduction.
- Strong time management and organizational abilities to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with kitchen and service staff.
- Relevant culinary or hospitality qualification, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in a commercial kitchen.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks safely, following workplace health and safety guidelines.
- Previous experience in corporate, institutional, or high-volume catering environments is highly regarded.
