Reporting to the Health Service Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Operating Officer will provide executive leadership for day-to-day patient-centred operational services across THHS, translating strategy into measurable clinical, operational, workforce and financial outcomes. The role carries significant accountability across the Health Service, including approximately $1.2 billion in operating budget and 5,900 FTE, spanning five Clinical Divisions, Facilities and Integrated Support Services, hospital-wide patient flow and Public Health.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide executive leadership across the delivery of secure, effective and efficient patient-centred healthcare servicesTranslate the Health Service's strategic priorities into integrated operational plans and measurable performance outcomesDrive operational excellence, productivity, service improvement and contemporary models of care across a complex multi-site environmentLead performance against key clinical, operational, workforce and financial targets, ensuring effective resource allocation and sustainable service deliveryProvide executive oversight of commissioning major infrastructure and service development initiatives, including new and expanded healthcare servicesLead and develop high-performing executive and operational teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvementProvide executive leadership during major emergencies as the designated Health Incident ControllerBuild strong relationships with government,
healthcare providers, community organisations and other key stakeholders across North QueenslandBackground & QualificationsSignificant senior executive leadership experience within a large and complex healthcare or public health environmentDemonstrated experience leading large-scale, multi-site health service operations and multidisciplinary teamsStrong understanding of healthcare strategy, operational performance, workforce planning and financial managementProven track record of delivering service improvement, transformation and organisational performance outcomesStrong experience in governance, risk management, quality and patient safetyHighly developed financial and commercial acumen, with experience managing significant budgets and resourcesExceptional communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate effectively at executive and government levelsRelevant tertiary qualifications in health, business, management or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications will be highly regardedThis is a career-defining opportunity for an accomplished healthcare executive to lead operational performance across one of Australia's most significant regional health services and contribute to the delivery and development of healthcare for communities across North Queensland.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
