Gladstone Ports
Corporation (GPC) is seeking an experienced Earthworks Supervisor to join our Terminal Operations team and play a key role in delivering critical civil construction, earthworks, quarry, and marine infrastructure projects.
About The Role
Reporting to the Auxiliary Superintendent, you will be responsible for supervising civil construction projects, bulk earthworks and quarrying operations, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. You will lead teams across a diverse range of civil construction activities including road and drainage construction, marine construction works, seawall and sediment basin construction, bulk earthworks, quarry extraction, drill and blast operations, and other infrastructure development projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily civil construction, earthworks, quarrying and infrastructure activities to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Lead daily pre-start meetings and implement effective risk controls.
- Plan and allocate labour, plant, and equipment to maximise productivity.
- Monitor project progress and ensure compliance with construction plans and specifications.
- Maintain accurate project, inspection, maintenance, and operational records.
- Foster a positive team culture focused on safety, performance, and accountability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Collaborate with engineering, technical and operational stakeholders to support project delivery and compliance with relevant standards and approvals.
- Develop a high-performing team culture by promoting accountability, collaboration, workforce involvement and continuous learning.
- Identify opportunities to optimise resources, improve operational efficiency and contribute to cost-effective project delivery.
About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in earthworks, quarrying, mining, or civil construction environments.
- Strong leadership experience supervising multi-disciplinary teams.
- Sound knowledge of quarrying operations, earthmoving equipment, and construction methodologies.
- The ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and relevant standards.
- Excellent planning, communication, and organisational skills.
- A proactive approach to safety leadership and risk management.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 2 years' experience supervising civil construction, earthworks, quarrying or mining operations.
- Demonstrate ability to interpret engineering drawings, construction plans,
specification sand relevant industry standards.
- Competencies recognised by the Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee, including:
- RIIRI301D Apply Risk Management Processes
- RIIWHS301D Conduct Safety and Health Investigations
- RIICOM301D Communicate Information
- Completed or currently undertaking a Certificate IV in Surface Extraction Operations.
- Completed or currently undertaking a Safe Drilling and Blasting course.
- Solid working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
