The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for health professionals. We protect the public by only registering practitioners with the necessary skills, qualifications and expertise to practise safely in Australia.
About the role
Ahpra is embarking on a significant period of strategic implementation and transformation, and we're seeking an experienced strategic portfolio management specialist to help shape how this work is delivered.
Reporting to the Executive Director Finance & Risk and working closely with key areas of Ahpra, you will establish and embed the frameworks, governance and processes that enable strategic initiatives to be prioritised, resourced, monitored and realised effectively across the organisation. This is a hands-on role focused on portfolio design, advantages realisation, resource management and implementation governance, ensuring strategic priorities translate into measurable outcomes.
This is a unique opportunity to build capability from the ground up, bringing proven expertise to establish contemporary portfolio management practices that support delivery across a complex and evolving environment.
About you
You are a strategic and outcomes focused portfolio management professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys turning organisational strategy into practical delivery. You bring a collaborative approach, sound judgement and the ability to influence at all levels, building strong relationships while navigating competing priorities. You are comfortable operating at both the strategic and operational level, combining big-picture thinking with the discipline required to establish frameworks, governance and measurable outcomes.
You will bring:
- Extensive experience designing and implementing strategic portfolio management frameworks, governance models and prioritisation approaches.
- Demonstrated expertise in benefits realisation, including the identification, measurement and tracking of strategic outcomes.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with experience advising and partnering with senior leaders and executives. Strong portfolio governance, resource planning and portfolio performance management capability within complex organisations.
- Advanced knowledge of Agile and contemporary delivery methodologies, particularly within technology-enabled transformation environments.
- A willingness to share your knowledge and mentor others
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement Ahpra's strategic portfolio management framework and supporting governance processes, including systemisation of those processes
- Establish approaches for portfolio prioritisation, resource allocation and performance monitoring.
- Drive benefits realisation practices to ensure strategic initiatives deliver intended outcomes.
- Provide portfolio insights, reporting and recommendations to support executive decision-making. Partner with leaders across Ahpra to translate strategic priorities into coordinated and measurable delivery outcomes.

Flexible working arrangements are available, with the role offered as either 0.6 FTE (3 days per week) or full time on a 12-month contract.
Total FTE remuneration package: $174,573 ($155,869 plus Superannuation) per annum To apply:
