Australian Water Association

Sydney

We’re looking for a strong communicator with the ability to build connections and bring together the right expertise to solve important problems in the water sector.

While our offices are in Chatswood NSW, this role could also be based in one of our state hubs in WA or SA.

This is an exciting opportunity to harness the collective expertise of the water sector and play a key role in creating a sustainable water future, while being part of the Australian Water Association’s closely knit team.

We are the peak body for Australia's water sector and powered by our vision for a sustainable water future, we are evolving from being a connector of water professionals into a catalyst for system-wide change.

With a new five year strategy and advocacy plan, as well as a roadmap through to 2030, we’re experiencing strong momentum in growing our voice with government, making this an exciting time to join AWA.

About the opportunity

- This is a permanent, full time role within our Advocacy & Capability team
- Hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in office and 2 days working remotely
- Salary packaging benefits and novated vehicle leasing

Responsibilities

- Lead and evolve AWA’s specialist technical networks and communities of practice
- Build engagement and participation across members, volunteers, technical experts and partners
- Work closely with volunteer chairs and committees to enable effective network leadership
- Capture knowledge and insights emerging from networks, events and technical collaboration
- Translate complex technical expertise into practical resources, sector insights and strategic intelligence
- Identify emerging trends, challenges and innovations in the water sector
- Connect the best technical expertise with AWA’s advocacy and capability objectives

- Help drive collaboration across industry, government, research and adjacent sectors
- Provide technical insights to the design of conferences, webinars, member circles and capability programs
- Connect networks with broader organisational programs
- Evaluate network effectiveness, engagement and impact and continuously improve the model.

About you To be successful in this role, you will be robust at building relationships and have experience working with technical and professional audiences.

Your expertise includes working with professional networks, committees, working groups or communities of practice, translating specialist expertise into organisational or sector outcomes.

You’ll have experience working in the water, sustainability, circular economy or infrastructure sectors and an ability to understand technical content without necessarily being a technical expert.

Required skills

- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
- Experience working with senior/technical specialists
- Ability to build, activate and sustain professional communities/networks
- Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills
- Ability to translate complex information for different audiences
- Consensus-building and influencing skills
- Strong systems thinking — able to see connections between technical issues, policy, industry and organisational priorities
- Program/project management
- Partnership development and cross-sector collaboration
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers, committees and subject-matter experts
- Ability to identify useful insights/trends from multiple sources
- strong evaluation skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

If you’re excited about this unique opportunity and have the relevant skills and experience, we’d love to hear from you!
