What you'll be doing
The National Indigenous Engagement Manager leads engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders across NCIRS and the national Indigenous immunisation sector. Operating under the strategic direction of the National Indigenous Immunisation Lead and working in close partnership with the National Indigenous Immunisation Research Fellow, the role provides the secretariat for, and strategic and policy advice to, the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Immunisation Leadership Committee, and drives the Indigenous focus and cultural relevance of activities across all NCIRS program areas.
The role is responsible for building, managing and influencing high-level relationships with internal teams and external peak bodies and government, exercising independent judgement on sensitive matters, and providing expert advice to advance immunisation in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples at a national level.

NCIRS is the leading organisation in Australia working in research that provides expert advice to support evidence- informed immunisation policy and guideline development, evaluation of the National Immunisation Program and the surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccine coverage and vaccine safety. NCIRS has national and international recognition in this arena and also has a growing program of work providing technical support to countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
NCIRS is a collaborative team of experts in public health, biostatistics, infectious diseases, paediatrics, internal medicine, epidemiology, communication, social science and quantitative and qualitative research and survey methods.
The Centre is based within the Division of Research of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN), Westmead Campus, NSW, Australia, but has an all-age research remit and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases (Sydney ID) at the University of Sydney. NCIRS is funded primarily by the Australian and NSW Governments, as well as via grants from WHO, Gavi and research granting bodies.
NCIRS has a nationally representative Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Immunisation Leadership Committee comprised of more than 30 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander professionals and five non-Indigenous allies that provides cultural and technical governance and input into all work that involves Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Responses to the questions below: * Tertiary qualifications in a health-related field, communications or a related discipline, and/or substantial demonstrated experience, or an equivalent combination of study and experience.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills, including proven ability to prepare strategic, briefing and committee documentation and to communicate effectively and respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations.
- Demonstrated ability to build, manage and influence complex relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior staff, peak bodies and government, to achieve shared outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience providing secretariat and/or governance support to committees or advisory groups,
including setting agendas, preparing papers and advice, and driving actions through to completion.
- High-level organisational skills and a proven ability to work autonomously, exercise sound independent judgement, manage competing priorities and progress work to completion with limited direction.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, negotiate with and influence organisations across the health or related sectors to advance initiatives and programs with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander focus.
- Knowledge and experience in Indigenous health, including an understanding of immunisation and vaccine-preventable diseases affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the broader determinants of health.
- Proficiency in standard computer software, including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
