SENIOR CAMPAIGNER
Role: Full time, Permanent position
Location: Open to candidates Australia wide, however Sydney, Melbourne or Darwin based candidates preferred THE TEAM The Campaign Team is responsible for fighting for robust climate action and nature protection. Whether it’s preventing huge new gas mines, taking the fight of the Pacific to the world’s biggest stages, or advocating for solutions to replace harmful forms of economic activity, you’ll be working on campaigns we believe will make the world safer and more just.
Our Campaigning Team is divided up into 3 core streams: Climate and Energy, Nature and Pacific. We are looking for someone to join our Climate and Energy team, reporting to our Head of Climate and Energy, to help leverage Greenpeace’s power to influence and inspire decision-makers to shift in a way that aligns with the speed necessary to solve the world’s most pressing problems.
THE ROLE
As a Senior Campaigner, you will devise, coordinate, and deliver priority climate and energy campaigns aligned with GPAP’s strategic plan. You will be at the forefront of tackling major environmental issues, including stopping the expansion of gas extraction and exports, advocating for ambitious emissions policies, addressing extreme weather events, and holding fossil fuel industries accountable.
In the first year of this role, you will focus primarily on campaigning to stop the expansion of gas extraction, use and export from Australia.
The portfolio will also encompass broader climate and energy issues, including key emissions policies, data centres, extreme weather events and Australia’s international fossil fuel exports.
Key responsibilities include:
- Campaign Strategy & Execution: Lead the creation and rollout of dynamic, ambitious climate campaign strategies that integrate mobilisation, storytelling, political, corporate, and community organising tactics.
- Movement Leadership & Collaboration: Mobilise interdisciplinary project teams across GPAP and build powerful coalitions with movement allies, grassroots communities, and external stakeholders.
- Media & Public Representation: Serve as a spokesperson for Greenpeace, presenting compelling narratives to the media, public, policy makers, and corporate leaders.
- Content Creation & Action: Guide and develop inspiring campaign content (reports, media releases, videos, emails) and integrate creative non-violent direct action tactics into overall strategies.
- Research, Insights & Adaptation: Utilise deep research and political analysis to identify leverage points, navigate changing external environments, and pivot campaign strategies effectively.
- Budget & Project Management: Manage campaign project budgets, coordinate contractors/volunteers, and deliver transparent reporting to internal leaders and funding partners.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
We are looking for someone who brings creativity, agility, and leadership to every stage of campaign planning and execution. From strategy and stakeholder engagement to content creation and media representation.
You'll have excellent communication, problem-solving, and influencing skills with the ability to lead diverse teams without direct authority.
You’ll ideally also have
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a campaigning or similar strategic advocacy role.
- Proven track record of designing and deploying successful, winning campaign strategies.
- At least 1 year of experience managing people (contractors, staff, or volunteers)
or leading matrix project teams across departments.
- Demonstrated experience in media engagement, public speaking, and managing high-level stakeholder relationships.
- Deep understanding of political and corporate power dynamics, government processes, and policy leverage points (knowledge of Australian gas project regulation is highly desirable)

Annual full-time salary: $120,525.69 per annum plus 12% superannuation.
