About HaltH
Every day, people miss out on health funding they're entitled to, not because it isn't there, but because accessing it is so much harder than it should be.
Outdated terminals, manual steps, and disconnected systems create friction at the very moment care should feel supportive.
HaltH exists to change that.
We're building a new experience layer for health: one that connects directly to the world's health funding and makes payments, claiming, and coverage work together in a single, clear, intuitive flow.
Integrated seamlessly into the practice management software providers already use, HaltH combines modern payment technology with real-time health funding intelligence.
The result: people access the care and support available to them, and providers deliver smoother, more confident experiences.
We're beginning with Australia's allied health community, and building toward a future where being healthy is easier.
Our platform powers online bookings, payments, and health fund claiming - purpose-built for health, and built using world-class technology and infrastructure to support hundreds of thousands of clients interacting with their health providers every day, reliably, securely, and at scale.
We're looking for a best-in-the-world software engineer
You're a strong engineer who still loves the craft.
You care deeply about writing great code, but also about why something should exist, how it should scale, and what it unlocks for the people using it.
You've likely seen products grow, systems strain, and teams evolve. You know how to operate in ambiguity, make pragmatic trade-offs, and take ownership end-to-end.
You're excited by real responsibility, real impact, and the chance to help shape both product and engineering standards at a company with genuine ambition.
The role
We're hiring a best-in-class Software Engineer to help build the core systems, products, and infrastructure that will define the future of HaltH.
You will:
- Take ownership of end-to-end delivery across core HaltH products
- Design and build scalable, maintainable systems across frontend, backend, and infrastructure
- Work closely with product and business stakeholders to turn real-world health workflows into high-quality software
- Help shape engineering standards, architecture decisions, and development practices
- Raise the bar through strong testing, thoughtful reviews,
and high-quality execution
- Mentor and support other engineers as the team grows
And critically, you bring a genuine curiosity for, and interest in, the health category.
You understand that great engineering here is not just about clean abstractions or shipping features. It is about removing friction from moments that matter, helping people access care, and building systems that providers can trust.
You'll spend time with the team, the product, and the real-world workflows behind what we're building - so the software you ship is grounded in actual use, not assumptions.
You'll work across:
- Product surfaces used by providers and clients
- Platform APIs and backend systems
- Infrastructure, deployment, reliability, and scale
- Internal tooling, architecture, and engineering quality
In this role, you don't just implement tickets. You help define what outstanding looks like.
Your challenge is to help build an engineering foundation that can support meaningful scale, without losing speed, quality, or product intuition.
That means making strong technical decisions in a fast-moving environment - balancing long-term architecture with short-term momentum, and building systems that are both practical today and durable tomorrow.
At HaltH, the problems are not hypothetical. They are live, layered, and important. The work you do will directly shape how providers get paid, how people access health funding, and how health experiences feel in the real world.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain production-grade APIs and backend services
- Contribute to architectural decisions across systems, services, and infrastructure
- Improve engineering quality through testing, code review, and strong development practices
- Help drive performance, reliability, observability, and scalability across the stack
- Collaborate cross-functionally to solve real business and user problems
- Support a culture of ownership, pace, honesty, and continuous improvement
What you bring
Must have:
- 5+ years of experience in full-stack software development
- Strong TypeScript experience across real-world production systems
- Deep experience with contemporary frameworks and tooling, including NodeJS, NestJS, NextJS, ReactJS, and React Native / Expo
- Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining production APIs
- Strong testing mindset, with hands-on experience in unit and integration testing, including Playwright and Jest
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design, data modelling, and system boundaries
Will strongly help your application:
- Experience designing and operating systems on AWS, including Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge, RDS / Aurora, and ECS
- Infrastructure-as-code experience, including AWS CDK or Terraform
- Experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous systems
- Experience with CI/CD, releases, monitoring, and observability, including GitHub Actions, CloudWatch, and Grafana
- Strong database experience, including Postgres, SQL, migrations, performance optimisation, and ORMs such as TypeORM
And importantly, you're someone who wants to build, not coast.
You like being close to the work. You care about quality. You're comfortable being challenged, and you care enough to challenge others well.
- We're intentional, well supported, and building for long-term impact
- You'll work on challenges that matter deeply to people and communities
- You'll have ownership and influence from day one
- Your ideas will shape the product, the company, and the category itself
- You'll receive equity and think like an owner
- You'll grow quickly while building something important, at pace, in the open
- You'll join a team guided by clarity, honesty, ambition, and purpose
This is not a slow, cushy role. It is a chance to do some of the best work of your career, alongside people who care deeply about what they're building and how they build it.
