Are you a capable, ambitious commercial and property lawyer looking to step out of the traditional law firm grind? Tired of rigid 6-minute billable targets, endless partner hierarchies, and administrative bureaucracy?
We are offering a unique opportunity to work as our lead in-house legal advisor, collaborating directly with an experienced commercial operator on high-value business ventures, property transactions, corporate structuring, and supply-chain initiatives.
ey Responsibilities
• Commercial Drafting & Review: Draft, interpret, and negotiate commercial agreements, supplier and procurement contracts, terms of trade, distribution frameworks, and corporate resolutions.
• End-to-End Conveyancing & Property Transactions: Manage Tasmanian property acquisitions, disposals, due diligence, lease agreements, and settlement processes from instruction through to completion.
• Compliance & Regulatory Diligence: Identify legal tripwires across Australian Consumer Law, trade practices, corporate compliance, and relevant statutory standards.
• External Counsel Coordination: Identify matters requiring specialist external bar or top-tier counsel, brief them effectively, and manage those relationships efficiently.

What We Are Looking For
• Qualifications:
Admitted as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania (holding or eligible for a Tasmanian Practising Certificate).
• Experience: Ideally 2–5+ years PAE across general commercial law, property law, and hands-on Tasmanian conveyancing.
• Pragmatic Mindset: You understand that legal advice exists to facilitate commercial progress safely, not to stall deals over inconsequential semantics.
• Autonomy & Organization: Self-motivated with the discipline to manage conveyance timelines, critical settlement dates, and commercial drafting deadlines independently.
• Clear Communication: Ability to communicate complex legal risks in plain, direct English to commercial decision-makers.
What We Offer
• True Autonomy & Impact: Direct reporting line to the business principal. You will have a front-row seat to strategic deal-making and real operational decisions.
• No Billable Timesheets: Focus entirely on delivering high-quality legal outcomes rather than chasing artificial billing targets.
• Professional Growth: An exceptional foundation for a practitioner wanting to build an elite corporate and commercial resume or establish themselves as a trusted general counsel.
Employment Salary: Starting at $135,000 per annum full-time equivalent, pro rata for part time, plus superannuation, based on experience and capability.
