As a Producer of The Australian’s flagship daily news podcast The Front, you will work with host and editorial director Claire Harvey and our team to bring our journalism to life in both video and audio, working at the very heart of our newsroom in close collaboration with editorial staff around the world.

This role is predominantly office-based, with flexibility for work-from-home days depending on editorial requirements. A flexible mindset is key - news isn't a standard 9-to-5 job, so some evening and weekend work will be required.

Responsibilities

- Attend daily news conferences and pitch a shortlist of potential topics for each episode.

- Schedule interviews, manage technical recording and filming for studio and remote guests, and handle all recorded file uploads.

- Edit highly polished longform video and audio, short social clips, and written promotional articles or scripts for The Australian’s owned platforms.

- Collaborate with the Editorial Director, senior editors, and legal teams to ensure every story is editorially and legally sound.

- Partner with social, publishing, marketing, and commercial teams to publish episodes, facilitate sponsorships, and interpret cross-platform analytics.

- Assist with overall workflow planning, team management, and staff rostering.

Who are you?

- You possess deep journalism experience and a strong understanding of Australian and international news, pairing exceptional news judgment and storytelling flair with speed during breaking news and focus on complex topics.

- You bring outstanding interpersonal skills, total reliability, good humor, high ethical standards, and an innovative problem-solving mindset, allowing you to collaborate effectively and leverage team expertise.

- You understand legal compliance, including defamation, contempt,

and privacy laws - with proven expertise in fact-checking and implementing legal advice to ensure all content is fully accurate and sound.

- You demonstrate technical proficiency in audio/video recording (in-studio and remote), video editing, Descript (including multi-speaker video), Pro Tools, Premiere Pro, short vertical social media clips, Google Drive, and file management.

- You write and script-edit interviews, voiceovers, and links, while remaining eager to adopt new technologies, build new skills, and strictly hit every deadline.

- You are proficient in monitoring, analysing, and reporting on cross-platform analytics, metrics, and metadata to evaluate and enhance performance.
