JPGavan makes custom cricket bats by hand in our Sydney workshop. We started in 2012. Every bat is pressed, shaped and finished in house.
The role
We're looking for a hands-on woodworker who wants to learn the craft of cricket bat making. You'll start on finishing work and move through each stage of the process as your skills are signed off. You'll train under our workshop manager and work as part of a small team.
What you'll learn and do
- Sanding, buffing, grips, facings and stickers
- Knocking in and preparing bats for customers
- Processing clefts and shaping the face
- Pressing, cutting shoulders and width
- Cutting, fitting and gluing handles
- Hand shaping, weighing and balancing
- Keeping the workshop clean, secure and organised
About you
- Woodworking or joinery experience: an apprenticeship, cabinet making, furniture or similar
- Real attention to detail.
You notice a 1 mm difference.
- You follow a process step by step, every time.
- Comfortable around wood, machinery and a manufacturing workshop, and safe with tools
- A love of cricket. You play or follow the game.
- Keen to learn, takes feedback well and asks questions
- Reliable and on time, every day
Hours
40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility. Fully on-site at JPG HQ in Rydalmere.
Pay
$70,000 plus super to start. Pay rises as you learn the process and can work independently.
