About the role

The Machinist will be a champion of patience, persistence, and tolerance. You will be a trained tradesperson with the skills and knowledge to create tools, parts, and objects by operating milling and drilling machines, conventional lathes, and CNC machinery in a machine shop. It is an extremely precise role, requiring cuts to at least one-thousandth of an inch. You will operate a wide variety of machine tools and also have the skills to create set-ups on lathes and other complex machinery. You will need to be strong, precise, and know how to read technical drawings, whilst paying close attention to detail.

Key responsibilities

- Maintaining a positive approach to workplace safety
- Performing routine machine maintenance and repairing minor damages
- Checking output to ensure consistency with specifications and discarding defects
- Maintaining a safe and clean workstation
- Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed
- Sharing trade knowledge and experience with new staff as required
- Applying basic to intermediate computer skills in day-to-day operations

About you

- A technical or mechanical background (preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills

- Mechanical aptitude for workshop duties
- The ability to perform routine and non-routine tasks with a high degree of accuracy
