About the role

We are seeking a committed and ambitious Electrical Apprentice in their 3rd–4th year to join the team at Defended Energy in Ryde, NSW. This is a full-time position offering practical, hands-on experience in the rapidly growing solar and battery installation industry. As an electrical apprentice in the final stages of your training, you will be progressing towards becoming a fully qualified electrician whilst working on real-world projects that combine traditional electrical work with cutting-edge renewable energy technology. This role is integral to our operations, allowing you to develop advanced technical skills while contributing directly to the delivery of high-quality solar and battery solutions for our customers.

Key responsibilities

- Assisting in the installation, testing and commissioning of solar photovoltaic systems and battery storage solutions

- Supporting the installation of electrical wiring, cabling and components in accordance with relevant Australian electrical standards and safety regulations

- Conducting routine maintenance and troubleshooting on solar and battery systems under supervision

- Operating and maintaining electrical tools and equipment safely and responsibly

- Adhering to all workplace health and safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work method statements

- Collaborating with experienced electricians and supervisors to complete projects on schedule

- Documenting work activities, technical observations and project progress as required

- Continuing your formal training through your registered apprenticeship programme and attending block release or day-release courses as required





- Contributing to a positive and professional work environment by maintaining cleanliness and organisation on site

What we're looking for

- Currently enrolled in an accredited electrical apprenticeship programme and progressing into your 3rd or 4th year of training

- A strong understanding of fundamental electrical theory, circuit principles and electrical safety practices

- Knowledge of Australian electrical standards, including the National Electrical Installation Rules and relevant state-based regulations

- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation

- Competence in using standard electrical tools and test equipment appropriately and safely

- Familiarity with or willingness to learn solar photovoltaic and battery storage systems technology

- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to apply technical knowledge in practical situations

- A commitment to workplace health and safety, with a strong safety-first mindset

- Reliability, punctuality and a professional approach to work

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

- A valid Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel to job sites across the local area

- Preference for candidates with some experience in solar installations or renewable energy projects
