We’re looking for a reliable, hands-on chef to join our team at Paddington Social in Brisbane.

The role
Full-time position with a $79,500 annual salary
Full time hours, with reasonable overtime as required
Weekend availability essential
What you’ll be doing
Planning and organising food preparation and cooking for café service and catering.
Planning menus, estimating food and labour costs, and ordering food supplies.
Developing recipes, experimenting with new ideas and suggesting menu improvements.
Studying recipes and gathering the ingredients needed for service.
Setting up the kitchen with utensils and equipment, including knives, pans and kitchen scales.
Checking supplies, equipment and work areas for cleanliness and functionality.
Preparing and cooking food in a timely manner.
Monitoring dish quality throughout preparation, cooking and presentation.
Maintaining consistent serving sizes, meal quality and appealing plate presentation.
Adjusting recipes to meet customers’ dietary needs and requests,
such as reducing salt or removing dairy.
Checking ingredient freshness and discarding out-of-date food.
Ordering and maintaining food and supply inventories.
Delegating tasks and coordinating the work of cooks and other food preparation staff.
Supervising cooks and helping out wherever needed.
Hiring, training and supporting kitchen staff.
Demonstrating techniques and advising the team on cooking procedures.
Keeping wait staff informed about daily specials.
Discussing food preparation issues with managers, kitchen staff, wait staff and dietitians where relevant.
Ensuring the kitchen complies with food hygiene, health and safety requirements.
Duties may also include other tasks needed to keep the kitchen running smoothly.
Who we’re looking for
Someone with solid chef experience, valuable communication and a positive attitude. You’ll need to be organised, comfortable taking responsibility and care about the food you send out.
