Toowoomba Sports Club is seeking an experiencedSenior Sous Chefto join our culinary team in a full time position based in Toowoomba, Queensland.
This is a pivotal role within our kitchen operations, where you will play a crucial part in maintaining the highest standards of food quality, consistency and presentation across all of our dining services.
As Senior Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef in kitchen management, lead by example, and ensure that every dish that leaves our kitchen meets our exacting standards.
Key responsibilities
Assist the Head Chef in planning menus and managing kitchen operations to ensure efficient service delivery
Oversee food preparation, cooking and plating to maintain consistent quality and presentation standards
Supervise and mentor junior kitchen staff, providing guidance, training and constructive feedback to develop their culinary skills
Manage food inventory, portion control and waste reduction to optimise kitchen efficiency and cost control
Ensure all food handling, preparation and storage practices comply with health and safety regulations and club standards
Monitor stock levels and communicate with suppliers to ensure availability of quality ingredients
Take charge of kitchen operations during service, making decisions to maintain workflow and quality
Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service and address any customer concerns related to food
Maintain a clean, hygienic and safe working environment in accordance with food safety legislation
Contribute to menu development and testing of new dishes to enhance our dining offerings
What we're looking for
Minimum 5 years' professional kitchen experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory culinary role
Advanced culinary skills with proficiency in a variety of cooking techniques and cuisines
Strong knowledge of food safety,
hygiene standards and health regulations relevant to commercial kitchens
Proven leadership and team management abilities with the capacity to motivate and develop junior staff
Excellent organisational and time management skills to prioritise tasks during busy service periods
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistent quality and presentation standards
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment whilst remaining calm and professional
Knowledge of food costing, budgeting and inventory management
Current Food Safety Supervisor certification or willingness to obtain certification
Relevant culinary qualifications or formal training in hospitality or cookery (preferred)
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with both kitchen and front-of-house teams
