About the opportunity n
Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation is establishing an
Aboriginal Families First Initiative - **** Days program
to support Aboriginal women, children and families from pregnancy through to a child's early years.
n
We are looking for a compassionate and experienced
Social Worker
to join our multidisciplinary team.
n
The Aboriginal Families First Initiative - **** Days approach recognises that early experiences can have a significant impact on a child's health, development and wellbeing. It also recognises that families may experience social, emotional, financial, housing, family or other challenges that can affect their ability to thrive.
n
Your role will be to work alongside families, not simply provide a service to them.
About the role n
As a Social Worker, you will provide family-centred support that may include:
n
n
Psychosocial assessment and support
n
Supporting families experiencing social or emotional challenges
n
Identifying factors that may impact the wellbeing of parents, babies and children
n
Supporting parents and carers to build confidence and resilience
n
Providing information, advocacy and practical support
n
Supporting families to access appropriate services and community resources
n
Developing and supporting referral pathways
n
Working with families experiencing complex circumstances
n
Supporting early identification of risk and appropriate escalation
n
Working collaboratively with Midwives, Aboriginal Health
Workers/Practitioners,
GPs and Allied Health professionals
n
Participating in case coordination and multidisciplinary discussions
n
Supporting a trauma-informed approach to service delivery
n
Maintaining appropriate clinical and case documentation
n
Working within relevant child protection, mandatory reporting, privacy and professional requirements.
n
n
The role will focus on
early intervention, prevention, connection and practical support
, while recognising the strengths and existing resources within each family.
About you n
You will ideally have:
n
n
A recognised qualification in Social Work
n
Eligibility for relevant professional
membership/registration
requirements
n
Experience working with children, families or communities
n
Experience in family support, child and family services, health or community services
n
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
n
An ability to build trust with families experiencing complex circumstances
n
A strengths-based and trauma-informed approach
n
A strong understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality
n
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively
n
An understanding of the importance of culturally safe practice when working with Aboriginal families.
n
n
Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation or Aboriginal community setting will be highly regarded.
