Foodbank NSW & ACT is seeking a values-driven Community Engagement Coordinator to build trusted relationships and support local communities across Western NSW through impactful food relief initiatives.
- Lead on-the-ground engagement supporting food relief, community resilience and inclusion

The Impact of the Organisation
Foodbank NSW & ACT is a vital part of Australia’s food relief infrastructure, working at scale to address hunger and food insecurity across NSW and the ACT.
Working with farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers, Foodbank redirects food and grocery products to communities where they are needed most. The organisation partners with more than 700 charities and community organisations and supports over 900 schools through its School Breakfast 4 Health Program.
Foodbank is committed to ensuring everyone has access to good quality food, regardless of their circumstances, and works closely with communities to provide essential food and household items during everyday hardship, emergencies and natural disasters.
The Impact of the Role
As the Community Engagement Coordinator – Western NSW, you will play a key role in strengthening Foodbank’s connections with local communities and improving access to food relief across the Central West, Orana, New England and North West, Far West and Riverina Murray regions.
Based in the Central West and working remotely, you will spend significant time out in the community, building relationships with charities, schools, councils, First Nations communities, culturally diverse communities and other regional stakeholders.
You will work closely with community partners to understand local needs, gather feedback and support the delivery of effective and culturally appropriate food relief. You will also help expand Foodbank’s reach by developing new partnerships, supporting the School Breakfast 4 Health Program and delivering community outreach activities.
This is an opportunity to work autonomously across a broad regional portfolio while contributing directly to stronger, more connected communities across Western NSW.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement community engagement plans with schools, charities, community groups, First Nations communities, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, local councils, MPs and other regional stakeholders.
- Build and strengthen relationships with community partners delivering food relief, assessing local needs,
gathering feedback and supporting compliance with Foodbank requirements.
- Support the delivery of the School Breakfast 4 Health Program, helping schools and students maintain consistent access to nutritious food.
- Recruit new community partners and schools to expand Foodbank’s reach across regional communities.
- Plan and deliver community pop-up outreach sessions that provide timely and culturally appropriate access to food relief.
- Represent Foodbank at community events, forums and meetings to strengthen relationships and increase awareness of Foodbank’s services.
- Support the coordination and distribution of emergency food relief during natural disasters and other periods of increased community need.
- Collaborate with internal teams including Fundraising, Support Services and Operations to align community engagement activities with broader organisational priorities.
- Capture engagement activity and community feedback accurately within Foodbank’s CRM.
About You
You are a positive, community-minded professional who enjoys building trusted relationships and working directly with regional communities.
You are comfortable working independently from home and travelling regularly across a broad geographic area, while remaining connected to a wider collaborative team.
You will bring:
- Relevant qualifications in community development and/or demonstrated experience delivering community engagement or outreach programs.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including government, community organisations and culturally diverse communities.
- A genuine interest in addressing food insecurity, disadvantage and community need.
- Strong cultural awareness and the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with First Nations and culturally diverse communities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence representing an organisation in community and public settings.
- Solid organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage a regional portfolio independently.
- Experience planning and facilitating community meetings, forums or engagement activities.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office,
with experience or the ability to work with CRM and data management systems.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to work within broader organisational plans and priorities.
- You will reside in the Central West region and be comfortable working from home, with regular travel across the Central West, Orana, New England and North West, Far West, Riverina Murray and occasional travel to Sydney.
- A current NSW Driver’s Licence, along with a willingness to obtain and maintain a Working With Children Check and undertake criminal record and medical checks as part of pre-employment requirements.
