Experienced Skid Steer Operator – Slab Prep / Sand-Up Specialist

Akwika Plant Hire | South-East Queensland

Akwika Plant Hire is looking for a gun skid steer operator who knows residential slab preparation inside and out.

We are prepared to pay a premium for a veteran operator who can work autonomously, read a site, work efficiently and complete multiple slab preps / sand-ups per day without needing to be supervised.

If you've spent years honing your skills in a skid steer and know how to get a house pad ready quickly, accurately and properly, this is the job we're advertising for.

Your Gear

You'll have your own dedicated combination:

- Low-hour Caterpillar 216B3 skid steer;

- Low-sided MR tipper – automatic, easy to drive and maneuver around contemporary housing estates, with COLD A/C;

- Spectra or Leica laser setup; and

- Pole-mounted laser receiver on the spreader bar, allowing you to work to level without constantly climbing in and out of the cab.

It's a simple, productive setup designed specifically for getting residential earthworks done efficiently.

And if you're the right operator but the CAT isn't your preferred machine, we're open to trading it for your preferred make/model after you successfully complete your probationary period.

We want good operators to have the gear they need to do good work.

The Role

This position is primarily focused on residential slab preparation and sand-ups for our established builder and construction customers throughout South-East Queensland.

We're looking for someone who can take ownership of their jobs.

You'll be expected to arrive on site, establish your levels and get on with it.

For the right operator, we're not interested in standing over your shoulder. We want someone who knows their trade, understands what a slab prep should look like and takes pride in leaving behind a quality job.

Who We're Looking For

This isn't an entry-level operator position.

We're specifically looking for an experienced skid steer operator who:

- Has extensive experience with residential slab preparation and sand-ups;

- Can efficiently complete multiple jobs per day;

- Is highly competent working to laser levels;

- Can trim, spread and finish accurately and efficiently;

- Can work autonomously without constant direction;

- Knows how to work safely and efficiently around house sites, trades, structures and services;

- Takes pride in their machine and looks after their equipment;

- Communicates professionally with builders, supervisors and customers;

- Is reliable and turns up when they say they will; and

If you're genuinely good at what you do, we're prepared to pay accordingly.

The Work

We have reliable hours and consistent work with quality repeat customers throughout South-East Queensland.

Our focus is on doing good work for good customers – not chasing every job that comes along.

There is no requirement for weekend work or night shift.

If you want additional weekend or after-hours work when it's available, we're happy to offer it. If you don't, that's fine too.

Why Akwika?

Akwika Plant Hire is a family-owned earthmoving business servicing builders and construction companies throughout South-East Queensland.

We understand that an experienced operator is worth more than someone who simply has a ticket and can drive a machine.

We're looking for someone who can become a trusted part of the business, take ownership of their work and deliver the standard our repeat customers expect.

For the right person, we'll consider a permanent position and a longer-term future with Akwika Plant Hire.

And we're serious about putting good operators in good gear. After successfully completing your probationary period, we're open to discussing upgrading or trading the skid steer into your preferred make and model.

If you're a genuinely experienced slab-prep operator and want good money, good gear, reliable work and your weekends to yourself, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply through SEEK with your resume and tell us briefly about your slab-prep experience, the machines you've operated and your preferred skid steer.
