Trainee Mentor – Metallurgy Production

Glencore's McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a long future. Located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola, MRM produces and processes zinc, lead, and silver from our open-cut mine. Our products are transported to the Bing Bong loading facility and shipped worldwide, where they are used in everyday products across mobility, infrastructure, and communications.

About the Role

Reporting to the Superintendent – MET Production, the Trainee Mentor will play a critical role in delivering and supporting the Metallurgy Production Trainee Program. You will provide hands-on training, coaching, and mentoring to trainees across Ore Preparation, Concentrator, Concentrate Haulage and Bagging, Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), and Water Management operations.

Your focus will be to ensure trainees develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to operate safely, efficiently, and confidently while progressing through their training and certification pathways.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver practical training,



coaching, and mentoring to Metallurgy Production trainees.
- Ensure trainees are adequately supervised and supported throughout their development program.
- Promote and reinforce Glencore SafeWork Practices, including Fatal Hazard Protocols and Life Saving Behaviours.
- Monitor trainee progress and training compliance requirements.
- Conduct workplace observations, inspections, and competency assessments.
- Support the development and delivery of training programs, procedures, and work instructions.
- Assist in building a strong safety culture through mentoring, coaching, and positive leadership.
- Ensure incidents, hazards, and safety observations are reported and managed appropriately.
- Complete training records, reports, and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Identify opportunities to improve training systems, operational practices, and workforce capability.
- Foster a positive team environment aligned with Glencore values.
- Support operational teams to achieve safety, training, and production objectives.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential Requirements

- Demonstrated operational experience within a mineral processing or metallurgical environment.
- Solid understanding of:




- Ore Preparation
Concentrator Operations
Concentrate Haulage and Bagging
Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Operations
Water Management Systems

- Sound knowledge of risk management, safety systems, and legislative requirements.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or developing trainees and operational personnel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement.
- A genuine passion for developing people and sharing knowledge.
- The ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of the business.
- Excellent organisational and reporting skills.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent).
- Experience delivering workplace-based training programs.
- Knowledge of Ellipse or similar maintenance and operational systems.
- Previous experience in a mining or heavy industry environment.
