Know SIL inside and out?

IDSS is looking for an experienced Participant Liaison Officer – SIL to join our Birtinya Hub.

We are looking for someone who understands the day-to-day running of Supported Independent Living, knows what good SIL looks like in practice, and can confidently support participants, families and frontline teams while keeping quality, compliance and participant outcomes at the centre.

You will work closely with our SIL participants and support teams to ensure each home operates safely, consistently and in a participant-led way. You’ll need a strong working knowledge of the new NDIS Supported Independent Living Practice Standards and understand how those standards translate into everyday practice inside a participant’s home.

What you will be responsible for

You’ll oversee and support the effective day-to-day delivery of SIL services across your participant cohort, including:

 Building strong relationships with SIL participants, families, guardians and key stakeholders

 Ensuring supports reflect each participant’s goals, preferences, routines and individual needs

 Monitoring the quality and consistency of supports delivered across shifts

 Coaching and mentoring Lifestyle Mentors to deliver high-quality, person-centred support

 Ensuring teams understand that the workplace is first and foremost the participant’s home

 Supporting effective rostering and staffing arrangements within SIL environments

 Monitoring participant outcomes, documentation, incident trends and service delivery

 Ensuring participant files, plans, risk information and support documentation remain current

 Supporting transitions into and between SIL arrangements

 Coordinating communication between participants, families, support teams and management

 Identifying issues early and working proactively to resolve them

 Supporting quality improvement and ensuring SIL houses remain audit-ready

 Opportunity to participate in the on-call roster, if desired

You will need to understand SIL

We’re looking for someone who already understands the operational realities of SIL, including:

 Supported decision-making, participant choice, safeguarding and dignity of risk

 Participant rights, privacy and independence

 Household routines and shared living arrangements

 Workforce competency and consistency across shifts

 Rostering within participant-funded supports

 Service agreements and support delivery arrangements

 Incident, risk and restrictive practice considerations

 Participant goals and evidence of outcomes

 Communication with families, guardians and advocates

 The distinction between housing and tenancy arrangements and the provision of SIL supports

About you

You’ll ideally have:

 Demonstrated experience working with Supported Independent Living participants

 Strong knowledge of NDIS requirements and the new SIL Practice Standards

 Experience coordinating or overseeing disability support teams

 A sound understanding of participant funding and how SIL supports are delivered

 Strong knowledge of safeguarding, risk and quality requirements

 Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills

 Confidence coaching and guiding frontline workers

 Strong organisational and documentation skills

 The ability to identify issues, make sound decisions and follow matters through

 A practical, calm and solutions-focused approach

A Certificate III or higher in Disability, Individual Support, Community Services or a related field would be highly regarded, but practical SIL experience will carry significant weight. What good SIL looks like to us A SIL house is the participant’s home. We want someone who supports participants to make decisions about their daily lives, routines, relationships, supports and home environment, while balancing choice, safety, quality and accountability.

Why IDSS

At IDSS, our work is built around purpose, chance and passion. We want our participants to have genuine control over their lives and our teams to have the skills, knowledge and leadership required to deliver outstanding support. This role will have real influence over the quality of our SIL services on the Sunshine Coast and will suit someone who takes pride in seeing a house run well, a team work well and participants living the life they choose.

On-call participation is optional.

Apply through SEEK with your resume and a short cover letter outlining your SIL experience and your understanding of the new SIL Practice Standards.
