HorizonOne Recruitment

Our client is a Commonwealth agency with a regulatory function overseeing political financial disclosure and election funding.
Its Disclosure and Compliance section publishes and reviews financial returns from political participants, investigates potential contraventions, and administers public election funding.
The section is growing as its regulatory role expands, and its work needs to be transparent, defensible and able to withstand external scrutiny.
The Opportunity
Multiple 12-month non-ongoing APS5 Compliance Officer positions are available as the section expands.
You'll work under general supervision as part of a supportive team, reviewing financial disclosure returns and election funding claims.
It's a good way to build analysis, problem-solving and regulatory skills in work that underpins public trust in the electoral system.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Build hands-on regulatory compliance experience in a team that is growing rather than standing still
- Apply accounting, audit or finance skills to work with clear public value
- Work under general supervision, with a supportive team around you while you learn the legislation
- Gain exposure to a high-profile regulatory framework that is evolving with recent legislative reform
The Role
You'll support the section's compliance work across the disclosure and funding cycle, including:
- Reviewing financial disclosure returns from a range of political participants for accuracy, completeness and compliance with legislative requirements
- Assessing claims for election funding and undertaking related reviews or enquiries to determine compliance
- Supporting the processing and payment of election funding to eligible parties and candidates, in line with legislation and internal procedures
- Analysing moderately complex to complex information, identifying potential issues and providing well-reasoned advice to decision makers
- Engaging with internal stakeholders and external scheme participants on disclosure obligations
The Ideal Person
You're methodical, accurate and comfortable with structured, rules-based work.
You're likely coming from audit, accounting, finance or a compliance setting, and you're curious about how the rules apply in practice.
You will bring the following skills and experience:
- Experience in structured or compliance-based work such as financial audits, quality checks or similar processes
- The ability to analyse and interpret moderately complex information, identify issues and give timely, accurate advice
- Robust written and verbal communication, and confidence engaging with internal stakeholders and external parties
- Sound organisation and prioritisation, with a track record of delivering accurate work to tight or competing deadlines
- Flexibility in responding to changing legislation, priorities and processes
Australian citizenship and a Baseline security clearance, or the ability to obtain one, are essential.
It’s also desirable if you have:
- Experience in a regulatory or Commonwealth government environment
- Qualifications or work experience in accounting, commerce, finance or a related field
Salary / Rate
- $88k – $96k + Super
- 12-month non-ongoing
- Canberra or Melbourne based
