The Team
The Tasmanian Disability Commissioner is a new statutory authority established by the Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024. Disability Commissioner Tasmania is the office and team of staff dedicated to supporting the Commissioner to fulfil their functions. Disability Commissioner Tasmania works to advance the rights of Tasmanians with disability while also safeguarding against violence, abuse, neglect, coercion and exploitation.
The Role
- The investigator is a current role within Disability Commissioner Tasmania. Reporting to the Deputy Disability Commissioner, the investigator will carry out administrative investigations into allegations of Violence, Abuse, Neglect, Coercion and Exploitation of people with disability in accordance with the Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024 and the Commissioner's internal procedures
- As a senior position within the office, the Investigator will also assist with assessing reports received under the Act and responding to enquiries made by members of the public.
You will need
- Demonstrated high-level knowledge of, and practical experience in undertaking administrative investigations, particularly regarding matters of harm occurring to individuals.
- High-level knowledge and understanding of the role and functions of the Disability Commissioner Tasmania and the context within which it operates.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, disability rights and rights-based, person-centred approaches.

Details of appointment
Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible until 30 June 2027.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary
$111,754 - $126,579 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- A current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Direct lived experience of disability.
- Experience in a statutory or complaints management authority.
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations, a relevant tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
