An exciting chance exists for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join a well-established national organisation operating within a commercially focused environment. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to both financial accounting and commercial analysis, partnering with key stakeholders across sales, procurement, and leadership teams to support business performance and strategic decision-making.
Reporting to the Chief Financial and Information Officer, you will play an important role in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining financial integrity, and providing meaningful insights that support growth initiatives, supplier relationships, pricing decisions, and overall business performance. This is an ideal opportunity for a developing finance professional looking to broaden their commercial exposure while building on strong accounting fundamentals.
Duties
- Prepare and review month-end financial reporting, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Support month-end close processes and ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial data across the general ledger.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance reporting activities.
- Undertake balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies as required.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset management, and bank reconciliation processes.
- Deliver timely financial analysis and commentary to support decision-making across the business.
- Analyse supplier pricing, rebates, funding arrangements, and cost movements to identify commercial insights.
- Assist in evaluating supplier agreements, sourcing decisions, and procurement initiatives.
- Contribute to business cases, commercial assessments, and value delivery analysis.
- Work closely with stakeholders across finance, sales, procurement,
and commercial teams.
- Utilise financial systems and reporting tools to generate accurate and meaningful business insights.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce, Business, Economics, or a related discipline.
- CA or CPA qualification in progress or completed.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a Financial Accounting, Assistant Accountant, or Finance Business Partnering role.
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and reporting practices.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to manipulate, analyse, and interpret financial data.
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and data integrity.
- Experience preparing month-end reporting, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders across various business functions.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or similar platforms.
- Exposure to commercial analysis, pricing, supplier funding, rebates, or procurement environments will be highly regarded.
- Experience within FMCG, retail, wholesale, distribution, or similarly commercial industries will be advantageous.
