The Role

The Rail Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day movement of freight by rail, working closely with Aurizon, internal operations and the Fleet team to ensure freight is booked, manifested and transported efficiently. The role manages rail bookings and movements, unit control, hazardous materials declarations and demurrage/storage costs, while maintaining accurate records across internal systems.

Specifically, the role will include:

- Coordinate rail bookings with Aurizon, ensuring freight is booked accurately and in line with operational requirements.
- Coordinate rail trips and movements, monitoring planned services and ensuring freight is available and ready for scheduled departures.
- Prepare and maintain rail manifests to ensure accurate freight and unit information is provided for each rail movement.
- Complete until control sheets and maintain accurate records of containers/units throughout the rail movement process.
- Enter and maintain bookings in internal systems.
- Coordinate the declaration of hazardousmaterials, ensuring required information is accurately provided to the internal transport provider and relevant requirements are met.




- Monitor and control demurrage and storage costs, maintaining Excel-based tracking and identifying potential additional costs or delays.
- Work closely with the Fleet and Transport teams to coordinate the movement of freight and support productive utilisation of transport resources.
- Liaise with internal teams, rail providers and transport partners toresolve operational issues and ensure freight movements remain on schedule.
- Identify and elevate delays, booking issues or capacity constraints that may impact customer service or freight movements.
- Maintain accurate operational records and documentation relating to rail movements, bookings, freight and costs.

The keys skills and experience required for the role are:

- Extensive supply chain or logistics experience
- Knowledge of transport mass management and CoR
- High attention to detail
- Safety focus on road/rail/see
- DG experience would be advantageous
