Make worker safety work where the work happens
Our support workers do their work in people's homes and out in the community, often on their own. Keeping them safe, without holding back the support participants rely on, takes someone who understands how the work is really done and can build systems that hold up on shift.
My Supports is a national disability support organisation with around 900 people across seven states and territories. Our Neighbourhood Team Leaders live and work in the communities they support, and more than 70% of our people bring lived experience of disability or caring. We do what's right, especially when it's hard. Safety sits at the centre of that.
The role
This is a new role and our first dedicated WHS position. The framework is in place. We need someone to own it, make it work on the ground and keep building it. You'll report to the Chief People Officer, with no direct reports and real latitude to shape the role.
You'll:
Set up and run worker consultation, including a WHS committee and our approach to HSRs
Own inspections, audits and incident investigations, through to closed-out corrective actions
Align our safe work practices with how the work is really done, and build hazard identification capability in our frontline leaders
Lead our psychosocial risk work with the Chief People Officer
Own the worker safety controls for occupational violence - two-worker criteria, duress, de-escalation training and post-incident support
Own fire, emergency and physical environment arrangements, starting with our SIL sites
Prepare WHS reporting for the board
About you
You're technically strong and confident influencing leaders you don't manage. You'd rather build a working system than write another policy, and you're honest about what can be done in the days available.
Our mindset is "the answer is yes, unless it can't be". In safety, that means we don't say no to a support because it looks risky. We go in eyes wide open, with a plan that gives participants great support and keeps our team secure while they deliver it.
You'll bring:
A WHS qualification, or equivalent technical depth from experience
Hands-on WHS experience in disability, community services or another multi-site, high-risk environment
A track record setting up consultation, audit and investigation systems that work in practice
Experience identifying and controlling psychosocial hazards
Experience designing and delivering hazard identification training for frontline leaders
Working knowledge of WHS requirements across Australian jurisdictions
NDIS Practice Standards or workers' compensation experience is a bonus.
Pay, hours and location
We'd rather be upfront.
$90,000 FTE plus super, pro-rata - $72,000 at four days, $54,000 at three. The rate is fixed.
3 to 4 days a week (up to 0.8FTE),
with the workload scoped to match. Days are negotiable.
Fully remote, anywhere in Australia, with occasional travel. WA, NSW, QLD or SA would suit us slightly better.
You’ll need an NDIS Worker Screening Check, a Working with Children Check where required, a driver’s licence and Australian working rights.
My Supports was founded in 2015 by people with lived experience of disability and families who knew there was a better way. More than 70% of our staff bring lived experience of disability or caring for someone with disability. That shapes how we hire, how we support, and how we work.
We’ve turned the traditional structure upside down. Our Neighbourhood Team Leaders live in the communities they serve – local people empowered to make decisions and build trust.
We’re a registered NDIS provider. We’re not just another service provider – we’re a movement leading the change in disability support.
