Senior Commercial & Property Lawyer (8–10+ PAE)
Moonee Ponds | $150,000 – $200,000 depending on experience and client base
Exige Law is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Commercial & Property Lawyer to join our growing practice and play a key role in the continued development of the firm.
This position is ideally suited to an autonomous senior practitioner with at least 8–10 years' post-admission experience , with a strong background in commercial law and commercial property .
We are particularly interested in candidates with substantial experience across commercial property transactions, acquisitions and disposals, commercial leasing, property development and general commercial transactions .
The successful candidate will be comfortable managing sophisticated matters from initial instructions through to completion, maintaining direct client relationships and providing practical, commercially focused advice.
Applicants with a broader commercial and business law background who have significant experience in property-related transactions are also encouraged to apply.
We are open to tailoring the position around the experience, strengths and existing practice of the right candidate.
Remuneration
- Salary package of $150,000 – $200,000 , depending on experience;
- Higher remuneration may be available for an exceptional candidate, particularly where the candidate brings an existing client base or established referral network;

About the Role
The primary focus of the position will be commercial and commercial property law , with the successful candidate managing a broad range of transactional and advisory matters.
Depending on your experience, your practice may include:
- Commercial property acquisitions and disposals;
- Property development transactions;
- Commercial and retail leasing;
- Agreements for lease, leases, variations, assignments, renewals and surrenders;
- Property due diligence and transaction structuring;
- Development agreements and property-related commercial agreements;
- Business acquisitions and sales;
- Sale of shares and unit transactions;
- Shareholder and unitholder agreements;
- Partnership and joint venture arrangements;
- Commercial contracts and business transactions;
- Corporate structuring and associated commercial documentation;
- Property and commercial finance transactions;
- Mortgages, guarantees and security documentation; and
- General commercial advisory work.
The role will involve significant autonomy and direct client contact, with the expectation that you will independently manage your matters while working collaboratively with the firm's Principal, lawyers and support team.
There will also be an opportunity for the successful candidate to assist in mentoring junior practitioners and contribute to the continued development of the firm's commercial and property practice.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally possess:
- A minimum of 8 years' post-admission experience ;
- Strong experience in commercial law, with a particular focus on commercial property ;
- Significant experience in commercial property acquisitions and disposals;
- Strong commercial and retail leasing experience;
- Experience in property development matters and associated transactions;
- Experience in commercial and business transactions;
- Strong drafting skills across contracts, leases, transaction documents, correspondence and legal advice;
- The ability to independently manage files from initial instructions through to completion;
- Strong negotiation and commercial problem-solving skills;
- The ability to identify both legal and commercial issues affecting a transaction;
- Proven ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a team;
- Leadership capability and an ability to mentor and support junior practitioners;
- Strong organisational skills, initiative and attention to detail;
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills;
- A personable, pragmatic and commercially minded approach;
- A commitment to delivering high-quality legal work and exceptional client service; and
- Experience working within a billable legal practice, including familiarity with time recording, budgets and achieving reasonable performance KPIs.
An existing client following or referral network would be highly regarded but is not essential.
