You'll work closely with Durack's GM Pre-Contracts during tendering, Operations team during project delivery, and directly with senior management, clients and subcontractors. This is a commercially minded construction lawyer role working across the full project lifecycle — from tender and contract negotiation through to subcontracting, project delivery and final commercial resolution.

Key responsibilities

- Work with GM Pre-Contracts during major tenders to review proposed contracts, identify key risks and develop commercial departures
- Assess contractual risk before pricing and committing to projects
- Support tender negotiations and help develop commercially competitive but appropriately protected contract positions
- Negotiate and finalise head contracts with clients following award
- Work closely with Operations to develop project-specific procurement and subcontracting strategies
- Draft and negotiate complex subcontract agreements
- Lead commercial and contractual negotiations with key subcontractors and suppliers
- Advise project teams on contractual entitlement, variations, EOTs, notices and claims
- Negotiate amendments, deeds, settlements and commercial outcomes
- Assist with Security of Payment and contractual disputes

About you





- Experienced construction lawyer with robust contractor-side experience and genuine commercial capability
- Currently working within a major contractor, developer or infrastructure business, or senior construction lawyer in private practice
- Comfortable reviewing major head contracts during tender, negotiating terms with clients, structuring complex subcontracts, or working through live contractual issues
- Commercial and pragmatic approach
- Experienced with complex construction and infrastructure contracts
- Comfortable working alongside estimating, pre-contracts and operational teams
- Able to understand the practical and financial consequences of contractual risk
- Solutions-focused rather than overly legalistic
- Comfortable making decisions in a fast-moving contracting environment
